It's come to my attention that there are many people leaving their ships in space just to "reserve" a slot on the server in order to avoid being stuck outside when it's full.

I'll ask you all not to do that. There are a lot of people who are trying to connect in order to play. Taking a slot like that just to leave the ship in space and not playing is unfair to those who are waiting to connect.

Those found idling in space will be kicked from the server, and will also find a warning notification on their cargo holds.

Thanks.

Korrd. :rtfm:

PD: Igiss, I'm sorry for putting the notice in caps. But I need it to get noticed among the flood of new threads that appear on the new threads' list.

Out of curiosity, can the server player limit be raised? I am not complaining, heck, I haven't even downloaded the mod yet, but didn't something like this happen before, when the cap was 128?

Technically yes, but if it goes over 200, we all die. The server just can't handle it, why do you see no NPC spawns when you do eventually get in on peak time? More people = less NPC's.

Its just not going to happen, ever. This has been answered about 50 or so times I'd guess :( Request pin of such statement.

EDIT: @Korrd, what is the approx time limit? What if someone goes AFK for either the bathroom or check e-mails? Phonecalls?

I predict that this will be rather hard to police.

Good luck.

The server kicks you after you sit in a base for 10 minutes.

Edit: Can we instill a twenty four hour ban on anyone who takes a Gallic mission?

I think it's time to start remembering that AFK means. It's not Away From Keyboard, it's A free Kill. I can now feel justified in blowing people up when they dont respond to me. Make your demands, do what you are supposed to rule wise, and then take them out. In rp, If I saw and enemy ship dead in the water, I wouldn't ignore it. For those of you who have something important and have to run, RL is important, and if you lose your cool over getting killed in a game when you are dealing with RL, you need to reorder your priorities. I will not feel bad about killing people who are AFK anymore. I have noticed alot of ships just sitting in out of the way places afk, never thought this was what was going on. It's such an unbelievably selfish thing to do.

People should just use some common courtesy and reason in this matter. Going away for a minute or so for a quick toilet break imo is alright, but staying online while you go to dinner is simply unacceptable.

Sure it will be hard to police, but at the same time people shouldn't be so selfish as to "reserve" a slot when they want to go and do something else for over 20mins. Log off and let someone else have some fun whilst you're away - quite a few people only stay online for about half an hour anyways - and if noone else logs on after you, great! The servers a little less stressed and more stable for the rest of us.

PS: I'm so close to going into kantian ethic mode to prove how wrong this is - don't argue, just log off.

Why couldn't the server simply enforce global kick on 10mins of inactivity? Mechanics allowing, of course.

I have often a) taken a coffee break, b) gone to prepare food, c) gone to the bathroom while my ship has been on autopilot en route to a jumphole or mapping the system, for example. None of these take more than 5mins, and if it does, I'm usually docked and the server kicks me out. As I play on a notebook (sometimes while travelling) I also have separate cases of inactivity due to battery limits or WLAN connection issues.

The server also kicks me out if I spend more than 10mins doing proper RP on system chat while being docked, so it works both ways :) In any case, I feel any inactivity of more than 15mins is purely deliberate or due to technical issues. However, if someone has their computer or connection die, perhaps an enforced logout would be more warranted, than a sanction.

maybe a plugin that kicks you out of space after 15 minutes of idling? (while leaving a notice in the chat so it can't be reported as F1)

If RL calls me away for whatever reason, I just select the nearest base and hit F3. Only takes a second. Then the game can kick me in it's own time.

I never leave any of my ships floating in space. I just don't feel it's ever safe to do that.
