After going through the old LR recruitment threads I made, I noticed something.

"My father died"
"My mother died"
"My parents died"

in all its glorious variations. Be it killed by faction X or the character killed them or anything else.

That is rather...freudy....

What do we have against our parents?

It's an easy way to explain a misguided, socially abandoned individual.

If I was going to make a LR character, I'd just blame it on Zelot.

There was a sig here, once.

"Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die."

One of the most awesome lines in movie history ever?

It lowers the chance of them coming and spending hours listening that joining Rogues was the stupidest thing you ever did, your ship smells and you forgot on their birthday.

Parents are too mainstream.

It's really just because parents aren't particularly interesting.

Think about how common it is for fictional characters to be in the same situation. Samus Aran's parents were killed when she was three, Link never has actual parents, Luke Skywalker had no real parents, even Edison Trent has no parents to speak of.
