Ok, so I am planning to purchase and operate a RN Gunboat in the near future. With the RM's approval, but that comes later anywys...

For the first bit of the war it will be Loyal to the RM obviously, helping with the war effort.

However later down the line, I do plan on doing a RP event where the Navy manages to capture the gunboat, however it will become trapped in Rheinland space behind the battlelines, unable to return to liberty. Events are gonna be kinda like the movie U571.....(oddly enough I had forgotten completly of that movie when I wrote up the initial script for this event)

Its role would then switch over to quick strikes on strategic assets (hit and run attacks) and commerce raiding.

But the question I wanted to ask is... how big of a crew would a RN gunboat hold? I was thinking a crew size of around 20 might be reasonable but also, have heard people say only 1-5 fit in a gunboat....

Also would it be possible to sustain itself for long periods in space without docking, since I'd likely only have junker bases as ports (and even then maybe not) This is where commerce raiding would have to come into play, for supplies and food etc...

I like to fit my gunboat with 27 crew, just to make it awfully crowded. Kidding, and more along the lines of

-operator for a large piece of equipment (large mortar)
-Medic
-2 general pilots
-1 Commanding Officer (Who is right below you: 2nd in command)
-1 Mechanic
-1 Officer of the gun deck
-1 Navigation Officer

So that's usually what I go by

Hope that helps!

P.S. If you've ever seen the show Deadliest Catch, that is what I pretty much imagine gunboats being the size of.

In the duty of war. There is no substitute for someone who has already accepted death.

i'd say around 20~ on the Rheinland GB, some of the smaller gunboats like the orca, BH gunship, zoner GB, etc. probably only need around 5.

I always went with 20 on my RH GB, but 4 of them were "prisoner guards". I did a lot of NPC farming.

That works good then, I plan to have about 10-15 LN and a few RM prisoners...

Actually, I've been judging the Rheinlands gun boat to size and I'd say it would have 10 crew tops, 5 would probably be all it really needs, any more and the thing would be pretty packed.

Keep in mind that vanilla ships are to scale to the fighters, and the little pilot figure is an exelent way for figuring out how much crew.

For my transports and GBs (I don't have any really large GB's) I use the same number of people on the crew of the Serenity from the TV show firefly. That is, a captain, first mate, pilot, gunner, medic, mechanic, and another general-purpose crew member or two. that gives a total of 7 or 8 people for a reasonably-sized transport or GB. Militaries would most likely have a few more, and small transports or gunships (not gunboats) a little less.

Unfortunately most capships and transports are not to scale with the fighters. If you compare a dreadnought to a fighter and the fighter is way too large. (especially compared to planets)

So I guess i"ll see once I purchase the gunboat, but I figure around the 10-15 range is fair.
