What is really disappointing is seeing the officers indulge in this.
I would have expected the officers to be a cut above the rank-and-file soldier. Listening to them all engage in tales of rape and harrassement of women is a real turn off.
I deal with it by alluding to the fact that that Bretonians are little more than mindless thugs and rabble - and fully deserving their losses to the Kusari.
To be sure, when it comes to sexual abuse, the Hogosha can be just as bad - they do have a conservative cultural stereotype to enforce however.
To those who would say "Its a game, get over it PC rabble!" sure.
If people are not willing to work things out, perhaps some sanction reports should be filed and we can just let the Admins make their determination as to what is acceptable here?
Heh, go for it.

Oh, and for the record, most pilots are officers. Most modern airforces don't have enlisted men flying planes, same seems to go for the military factions here.
A way a lone a last a loved a long the riverrun, past Eve and Adam's, from swerve of shore to bend of bay,
brings us by a commodius vicus of recirculation back to Howth Castle and Environs.
For my own end, I tend to play my characters appropriate to their role. My Xeno, for example, considers non-libertonians to be sub-human and has a nasty word to say about all of them. My Bretonian characters have all had people close to them killed by Kusari, and hates them as a result. My KNF character doesn't particularly hate the Brets, but he fights them because they're the Emperor's enemies. He's a touch more courteous than my Brets, but not by much.
Now, having said all that, I do my best to stay away from anything insulting in RL. If one of my characters is saying something, I can assure you that it's meant entirely in RP, and I'm looking forward to your responses. Never do I intend any disrespect at all.
Now, looking at the bigger picture, I can assure you that the Bretonian players actually rather respect our KNF counterparts. Any intense RPing is exactly that, RP. We just get into our roles a lot, but it's really in good fun. If you ever think it's getting to be a bit much, just shoot a PM our way, and let us know.

No it isn't, because they're name-calling in-character, and their character is Kusarian. That's kinda the point of this conversation.
' Wrote:Just take solace in the fact that Kusari > Bretonia
Exactly, which is why the KNF faction is so much larger and more active than the BAF, and why they almost always trounce the BAF during events, not to mention the reason why Kusari is such an active and lively region of Sirius.
Ok.. So I went to the movies and this thread has spiralled out of control.
I think we're verging towards personal attacks, and this conversation is far from constructive. Peoples initial points have been made, and now, like it's been said everyone is butting heads, no not the war, but the people in this topic.
This has turned into a Kusari/Bretonia flame fest, and let's just be done with it.

Rather than lock it, I would rather hope that some of the more mature members of the community could think of a way to steer the conversation in a more constructive manner than mashing on player factions. -DL

I thought my post was constructive and non-insulting...
When you're RPing, you have to take on the mindset of the character. And good RPers really get into the mindset of their character. So yes, it would be good RP to come up with disgusting racial slurs and use them on your enemies. This would especially apply to the Bretonians, since they are currently losing the war.
Now, with that in mind, we all have to remember that we are playing a game, with other real people. I don't like to put it this way, but here goes: the person you're insulting may not be as good an RPer as you might be, and might not brush off an insult to his character as just being RP. Unfortunately, when this happens, people get into yelling matches and sanction reports get filed. Some people aren't that great at RP, or rather, the mental game of playing a a character and not letting anything in the game really get to you.
So yes, in wartime, people call each other terrible names. If this was a much more mature RP, with very experienced players and the guidelines specifically laid out saying "yes, you can call each other bad names, with the agreement that nobody takes it personally" then fine. But this is not that, this is Discovery FL. The average player is just not that mature. So we restrict ourselves in RP, for the purpose of not hurting anyone's feelings outside of RP.
Let's put it this way: would this server be a lot of fun to play on if being racist in-character was OK? Called you a bad name? "I was just being in-character, learn to rp noob." You might laugh, but that is exactly what I see happening.
So yes, we should limit the in character racism. But the mark of a really good RPer would be to come up with some creative insults that don't involve racism.
