just curious really, cuz i dont know the mod at all really, even though i know freelancer:D

i know u need the correct ID with certain reps and ships, so dont go thinking this is a "help" topic, fyi.
ty for your concern if you do think its one:P

but no, i had a question about mercenaries, and freelancers:

1-whats the difference?

2-can anyone supply a list of the ships they can buy? (and the guns/sheilds if need be, because i dont know if im allowed to mix-n-match or not)

just curious:) if anyones feeling helpful, then could i also direct me to where the HQ's of both of em are?
cuz as i said, i dont know the mod at all XD

There isn't really much difference between mercenaries and freelancers, except that freelancers are more lawful. They usually use the civilian type ships, or occasionally if they're more tied to a faction, they'll use that faction's ships, for example, if a freelancer was in a long term contract with the BAF, they may allow him to use a templar, although that would affect his image of being independent. Both of these factions, however, are generic factions, so it's unlikely that they have guard systems.

Guns and shields are usually civilian types/codenames/faction weapons if they've tied themselves down to a faction. All shields are usable, since they aren't faction specific, but aqquiring them may be difficult seeing as there are no guard systems you can get them from.

mercenaries are focussed on combat and hunting deals. - they seek short and long term contracts that are combat orientated.

a freelancer is focussed on money. - to get money, he ll go a long way... missions, headhunting, trading - whatever offers better opportunities.

mercanaries respond mainly to bounties - larger organizations might also be temporarily employed. - freelancers are usually not employed for more than a single task.

mercenaries try to stay as neutral as possible - while at the same time raise the rare currency that is called "reputation". a successful mercenary is someone that plays with politics as skillful as he plays with his guns. - he ll get contracts by outcasts, corsairs, houses - and his greatest virtues would be to be reliant, no matter who he currently serves.

a freelancer is not focussed that much on reputation - for him - the main currency is credits ( or another personal achievement ) - freelancers try to stay neutral not by being as neutrally hostile / friendly like the mercenaries to everyone - but rather by presenting no target.

a freelancer takes a job that is offered, he avoids trouble if the chances are that he looses more than he wins. a mercenary might very well jump into a combat that he is not payed for - to gain new business partners. ( but for that matter - both kinds are similar - depending on how you play them )

a freelancer has a few more choices when it comes to ships, contracts and solutions. - a mercenary won t trade for example.

ships allowed:

a freelancer can use any combat vessel up to a gunboat i think - and medium sized transports..

a mercenary can use any combat vessel up to a gunboat

a freelancer will try to be rather inconspicous - he ll use a ship and equipment that doesn t tell too much about himself.

a mercenary might very well choose a clear side, if that is where his heart is and where he wants to find a good earning.

but in both cases - ship and equipment must not be mixed ( enemy ship stuff - like outcast ship, corsair weapons ) - if thats the case, i guess you d need a special character allowance.

in general - a freelancer usually tries to hover more towards the civilian side ( eagles, cooperation gunboats, sabre / BW line )

a merc might even use a house gov. gunboat or other fctionized military gear.

but in both cases - the ID tells you only so much - 80% of what you ARE is made up of your own RP and understanding of your class... so a freelancer can aswell be a mercenary, a mercenary can be a freelancer.

its pretty much depends on the RP of your char, you can stay neutral and use civilian equip only or work for a faction or a group and use their weapons and equip, better decide on the RP of that char and make a little Story.
