You guys already done this(the coding/testing, not the implementation)? Im new here, thats why Im asking:P.

I can think of several really good reasons why this is a bad idea. Unless someone has made a breakthrough in modding FL, cruise speed is a constant, all ships have the same effect. Thats the only way I can think of mimicking a FTL is by modding the cruise engine.

Furthermore, this is a really bad idea because it would open the door for cheaters and speed hacks, due to raising the detection threshold on your cheat protection software. I hate to be the one to be the party pooper, but I dont think this is achievable within the limits of the FL engine.

EDIT:
After my last post, I tried to think of a way to make this work and go beyond the constraints of the FL engine.

Now that I think of it, a 3rd party application way of doing it might work..

If you have a programmer on your dev team, or if you are able to contact the maker of FLHook , and modify his source code to do something like this

Make a new function where one can enter .<a command><set of coordinates> (example: .FTL 12345.45812,12345.12345,-12345.123245), and after a timer countdown, the command takes effect and beams them to that coordinate. Maybe during that time, you can have an effect tied to it (I like the Nomad Battleship cloak effect). This function would be loosely afilliated with the with the normal admin .BEAM command that comes with FLHook. Of course this will require some micromanagement on the part of the admin. Because the person who bought a FTL capable ship would have to pm the admin, and the admin would go to the FLHook control panel and rights for that character (example: setadmin Forsaken .FTL) thereby giving that character with the expensive FTL cap ship the capability to use that command.

I dunno just an idea, I really dont care for it myself, but I thought Id toss it out and see take the basic idea and make it better. 

This would be a lot of work for the admins, becuz someone could buy a battleship, then go back to a fighter, and warp everywhere. The admins would have to handle a lot of accounts, deactivating and activating accounts. It seems like you thought long and hard about it tho, so i hope it works so u can get some recognition.

I don't like the idea of a scout. Unless it has the hull strength of a patriot, no CD, and weak weps. If not, it would be IMPOSSIBLE to escape, and everybody would be in a scout.


Still, i don't like the idea of a scout.

The BS have to have a powerflu jump engine because they are plenty of power to run it, but a fighter does not. It has a tiny fusion reactor, not a massive M/ARA as an engine core.

Yeah, the BS need a jump drive but perhaps the fighter could get a weakened version capable of being disrupted and taking 30 seconds to work and having no weapons or shields while waiting and only a tradelane speed and make it occupy a class 10 weapons slot.

Or perhaps the thruster mount? So you have to choose between massive speed or being able to fight?

Maybe trader's can this too....:)That would certainly allow money making....*sigh* it will never happen though will it?

Yes, I was thinking that the scout ship would have to be weak. It would be designed for exploring and not fighting. Maybe have 1 cm slot, 1 mine slot, 2 class 7 weps and 1 class 8. and it could hold maybe up to a class 9 shield.

that way a scout ship wouldn't want to chase anybody. Lol imagine if its trying to take out a train or container, the trader could demolish the scout.

Heres a better idea for your scout, no weapons at all.

Or we either A) go for this FTL drive thingy on BS's only or B) we drop it.

Most of the stuff suggested (wishlist), is not achievable in the Freelancer Engine. Most of it isnt even capable with the use of a 3rd party application.

I hate to be the party pooper, but there is alot of dreaming happening... If I was the server admin, or the Dev Team I would trash this idea... too many holes, too much work, too little gain. And I think most experienced modders would agree with me.

I hear some nice ideas here, but the FL engine simply can't work with it, not unless you have the very core of the engine and modify it. Basicly the FL engine is too simple really.
