Depreciation is the decrease of the value of an item.
Am I correct in saying that in Freelancer the resale value of your ship is halved once a ship is brought and flown outside?
Ok, here is what I am proposing. The ships value should decrease until it reaches half of its original value. The rate of depreciation could be based on the amount of time you have owned the ship or some other factor.
Positives- You can buy a ship and, if you like it keep it but if its horrible to fly resell it for not much less than what you brought it for.
Negatives- People might abuse it buy trying out every single BS or other ship in the game and not losing much money, [thats what single player is for people..] and that would cause a lot of OORP confusion
I do think it would be handy to see a ships 'hidden stats' (that is the things you can only gather about a ship from actually flying it) if you have a tough decision about a ship purchase. It can also be handy if you don't want to use a ship for very long.
What do you guys think, I mean, it would add a little bit of a realistic touch right?
The % resale value you get back when you sell a ship is hardcoded into the FreeLancer.exe. It can only be set to one value, it can't change from one to another based on the amount of time you have flown the ship.
