What would a trader and a fighter pilot be more wary of?
I currently fly the broadsword bomber, with the SNAC.
How much damage can a gunship put out and how manoeuvrable are they?
I'd recommend slapping on some shieldbusters on it, or codenames, along with a razor + snova, razor + razor, or snova + nova, depending on your fighting preferences.
They're kinda really manouverable, but nothing you can't handle.. It'll be hard to solo a gunboat though, if he has any chops, he'll kill you.

i think he asked which one (bomber or gunship) is better against an escorted trader
Well My bomber is a lane hacker, so I would be using the hacker gunboat if it was worth it. Also as a bomber I'm no match for a half decent fighter pilot.
Most of the traders I've come across aren't escorted. My reason for wanting a gunship is in case them pesky do-gooders turn up trying to drive me away.
unfortunatelly, a good bomberpilot wont be stopped even by a VHF. he can still dodge and concentrate on the slow trader.
if you're a pro, solo-ing an escorted trader wont be a problem.
but if you're mediocre in flight skills then your best bet would be to get
into that gunship and pray that the escort in question doesn't turn out to
be a bomber himself.
GS\GB is by far the best pie-ratting vessel out there, even with the nerf and transports having a range advantage.
However, a bomber escort changes that completely. A bomber will eat a gs pretty easy with a transport (especially a Contrans) providing support fire.
A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship.
Bomber for less talking and fast killing, gunship for more talking but slower killing.
In gunship you cant be just instablasted in middle of sentence by NPCs or stoped trader. Unbeatable combo is gunship and bomber.... gunship is talking and bomber fly around and scare stoped trader.

The Pirate Transport.

Bomber is a nice support ship, or when you need to blow up something big, really fast. You are vulnerable to fighter attack. You do have mines, which can help you escape using trade lanes.

The Hacker gunship shouldn't be operating alone anywhere except the independent worlds. It is best against fighters (and bombers, too! - if flown properly). However choosing a good gunship loadout for piracy and countering patrols can prove rather difficult. The gunship has less armor (significantly less, about 60% of the transport's armor rating) - but is smaller and one of the most maneuverable ships of its class.
For piracy, a transport has one great advantage - if the trader refuses to drop cargo or pay credits instead, you can open his hold with your cannons and haul the juicy loot off yourself.
