Do I have to be in a faction to use a ID belonging to them? For example, can I use a Border World Exports ID if I have not joined the Border World Exports faction?
Certain factions, such as the Phantoms or the Wilde - you MUST belong to the faction before using their ID.
However, you're more than welcome to create an independant character in most factions - providing that you role play your character as if he belongs to that organization. For example, there are a ton of indie corsairs and bounty hunters on the server, which use the corsair and hunter ID to do their own thing. And in fact, once you're above level 40, you HAVE to have an ID for your character.
But - if you specifically want to be a part of the BHG| - the organized Bounty Hunters Guild, or the Benitez or OPG - then you have to join the faction.
LN, RN, and others have independant players as well - that's where you watch how you name your character with the tag.
