I was introduced to it by a friend. He also introduced me to freelancer a couple years earlier... hadn't played it in a long time but I still had it on my pc.

Found it by accident. On lancers reactor if I remember correctly. Was looking for a quiet mod to make my home. Found discovery back in the day when getting 30 members online was cause for celebration.

Been here since Discovery 4.77 (lurk mode engaged)

Zapp Wrote:I have recently met and discussed with Atalawohisdi the trader that flies the Caribe. Just so everyone knows, I engaged in Sigma 13. He flies through half the system before going back to New Berlin, where he cruises from one side of the system to the other, hugging the sun as close as he can. All the while, he flies near Battleships trying to scrape me off. I finally send out the white flag, and move back to Sigma 13. However, it was a ruse, and he bit. Knowing his trade route, I interdicted the trade lane and the chase began anew. It ended, an hour after it began, with me retreating, out of Countermeasures and getting very irritated.

He kept boasting how he has never been caught; I'd like to see him beat until he begs to pay, then beaten some more.

- Best day ever. Cool

Well, i tried playing freelancer when i was very young, and because of my age back then, i quit. Since i didnt understand a quack. Then when i got older i tried freelancer again and after a while after doing the game, i thought to myself that i should try spicing the game up with some mods.
I snooped around the youtube, until i came over a link to the discovery website and i clicked it away fast cause i didnt bother checking it out. Then a day, i got bored and i wanted to play freelancer , but,as i had felt before; it needed spicing and the first mod that popped in my mind was the discovery mod . Since this was the only mod i knew to freelancer.
I found out what to do and how to do it, got discovery played it, became a newbie, broke a few rules Unintentially, learned and had fun.

i thought 'is there any space game better than this?'

after i played vanilla SP i wanted mods, so Disco was the first on the google list, but i had trouble finding GLS workaround, after that i was officially hooked to FL

Space simulators were always a passion of mine, but for some reason I just didn't run into them that often. I liked the old old Space Simulator program that came on 5 floppies, then I moved on to Starcraft and C&C.

Anyway, I friend online told me about Discovery. Okay, I said, I'd try this game. So I downloaded the "game," (Wow, I said, it's free!) and attempted to install it, but couldn't understand why it didn't play. Couldn't find an .exe, then when I did, it said I was missing DLLs.

I started to google the problem feverishly hoping to come up with a solution, but right before I posted on the forums, I saw -directly on the forums- that it was a MOD OF FREELANCER. I must have head desked, like, five times.

Boy meets mod, boy misunderstands mod, boy almost deletes mod out of anger, boy finally understands mod then falls in love with Gamma.

Typical romance.

"The thirteen saloons that had lined the one street of Seney had not left a trace. The foundations of the Mansion House hotel stuck up above the ground. The stone was chipped and split by the fire. It was all that was left of the town of Seney. Even the surface had been burned off the ground.
Nick looked at the burned-over stretch of hillside, where he had expected to find the scattered houses of the town and then walked down the railroad track to the bridge over the river. The river was there."

A friend of mine in real life who was in charge of the old Asguard Warriors clan set up Disco on my PC and said "have fun." It would have been nice if he told me that this was an RP server..........

After a year on Jolt FL (vanilla) I went looking for some good mod to try (there never were many, aside from a few funny total conversions, perhaps).

And I saw discovery won some award ... so went to try it. The second I saw factionalized roleplay, I knew it's the One. Because I was looking for that kind of stuff for years.

- Won the Freelancer game in a contest back in 2003.

- Played it

- Loved it

- Played it a lot more

- Started searching for mods, wanting to have more missions, was naive thinking that it was possible making alternate campaigns or something for it

- Downloaded various cool mods

- Realized FL was mostly about multiplayer, and sadly I had a modem

- Found Discovery, realized it was a huge server, registered on forums, still had a 56K modem

- Got a DSL connection, and faster than lightning turned on the Disco mod

- Explored a bit, hanging out with various people I met

- Joined the Colonial Remnant

- Played. A lot. Got much more experienced, grew to love RP, although when I started I had no idea what RP even meant( True story. )

- And wrote this post.

'Nuff said.

Ditto. I was barely out of my starflea before he uninstalled Freelancer and the disco mod and went back to EVE.

I bought and played Freelancer as soon as it came out though, then put it down and played mmos for few years. Now I'm back. I quite like the more intimate atmosphere discovery has, against a game with thousands of concurrent players. The Roleplay doesn't get drowned out as much.
