You're right Marvin. It was heated situation and my reaction was hasty, but it's aim was to determine if the intention of the remark was to insult. And when angry response came from the other side I was almost certain that it was.

Now, I just feel sorry, would like to redraw what I've said and explain myself once more.

The point of this thread was about that - to prevent future misunderstandings from happening or keeping them at the lowest level possible.

Many of us come from different backgrounds and these issues are sensitive ones. Some of us felt effects of all sorts of hatred on their skin before and take it more seriously then the others.

What happened cannot be undone now and the course of the events cannot be reversed. We can try to minimize the consequences and learn from it.

That is all I'm trying to do here.

Yeah there is absolutely nothing racist about the word Hispanic. For god sakes the word is used on government forms in the USA. It's a word that goes all the way back to the Roman empire... Geez, who the heck is saying that is racist???

I find this somewhat confusing - okay, you're the *Hispania* AF. One would think that AF "of Hispania" could just as well be called "Hispanic" - it is the proper adjective here. But since we're there - okay, you think that's an error, we'll do our best to be accurate, and never place ourselves in a position where an adjective would be required. It still doesn't make "Hispanic" anywhere near being offensive, just erroneous.

Look, guys. The point is that HAF stands for Hispania Armed Forces, not "Hispanic" or "Hispanian" or "Spanish".
We don't need to turn every word into an adjective; take the "Liberty Navy", for example. It's not the "Libertonian Navy" and the "Rhineland Military" is not the "Rhinelandian Military". Let the guys choose their name for themselves.

Call them HAF or call them by their proper name; it's not that hard.

@Quorg - we don't need to, but damn, I've said things along the lines of "I see the Libertonian doughnut-eaters have cleared off." when I needed to refer to the LPI every now and then. If the LPI were as touchy as tha HAF are, I would have a few "racist!" reports on my hands, as I understand the current situation.

God, why is it that everytime you get "in the news" (warning), there has to be 3 or more threads about explaining the topic. Get over it already. The reason why people don't remember your full name, is because it used to change every week. Every member of your faction came with a different explanation. Why do you even want to be called by your full name? I can't even remember the last time someone addressed me with the full name of my faction, and i surely don't care if they made a mistake. Just keep it at HAF, OPG, TBH, Benitez, it's easy to remember and pretty difficult to make a mistake in those.

Good grief...Hispanics prefer to be called "Hispanic" as a rule. Sheesh. I am working with the US census and its one of the ethnic choices people select to identify their ethnic background.

Methinks some are straining hard to find something to be angry about as an excuse to act up.

"Hispanic" is not a racial slur and I understood immediately that it referred the sleeper ship (as we have no "Hispanics" but we do have a "Puerto Rico"). My gosh, we have someone on here with "Mexican Power" in their name and "Hispanic" offends? Please: Hispanic ... and it's strictly a matter of preference in a several centuries in the future game if they want "H" to stand for Hispania or Hispanic. No big deal either way.
