Ehh well.. no

Again, talk to Derk.

Quote:Maybe someone's setting up and doesn't want the bother of picking the right ship to go down one tradelane.
You start at Erie, from there it's 3 TLs AND a JG.
Pennsylvania is not a start system just to add extra flight time. Basically you should have everything you need there until some 1mil credits level.

Quote:Suppose, then, you're parked in your Kusari dessie above Leeds, having some enjoyable banter with a BAF, when a BS patrol comes and blasts you to Kingdom Come. That's a RP-killer if ever there was one.
They do come every now and then... so I have to evade them. Which is perfect RP. Parking above enemy planet with a capship shouldn't be easy right?

' Wrote:I think the top-line NPCs should only be around home planets or guard systems. Elsewhere they just annoy people.

Top-line as in lvl18-19 are indeed only around home planets or in guard systems.

Quote:I want to interact with PLAYERS, not faff about with things which are ooRP.

So if NPCs disrupt your transport in Omega 47 that is hostile to Hessians.... they are ooRP? Or is you that is ooRP going there?

@ Osiris patrols

I'll try to change them to Praefect patrols as it makes much more sense now. Currently they are in Delta and Eta. Not me that put them in any of those places.

What we need to do is balance the power of NPC's at each level.

Using the Wilde as an example:

Level 14 Wild are harder to kill than most Level 19 NPCs.

OK thats just one case, and probably the only one.

While being quite funny, your sig was the biggest one i've ever seen so far. No more than 700x250 please. ~utrack

Yeah I'm signing. I don't mind the difficulty of NPCs. I find shooting NPCs boring, but that's just me. What I don't like about NPCs is that they work against a lot of the disco ideas, chiefly those brought in with the 'RP' aspect. To highlight this point with something from the post above:

' Wrote:So if NPCs disrupt your transport in Omega 47 that is hostile to Hessians.... they are ooRP? Or is you that is ooRP going there?

This put's an awful lot of limits on RP, doesn't it? Think about single player, because of the RP going on there, all of a sudden you go from being with the LSF to the Lane Hackers. If you try and RP something like this, NPCs don't give you a shot. It doesn't even have to be something at all major like that. Maybe you just want to meet someone from your opposing faction and have a talk. Maybe some hessians pirated you and as part of the deal, you have to take some stuff down to omega 47 for them. But because of NPCs now this doesn't work. The Hessians can't even let you dock on their base, and their NPC underlings will be shooting you the entire time.

I bought a scimitar last night and ended up getting in a fight with the [RM]. Now the RM are decent guys and they're not the type to say 'engaging' and just go steamroller you before you're ready. We got to have some nice RP back and forth before hand. Except, where we were (middle of nowhere) some bounty hunters and police and lwb patrols had all spawned. I'm in a light fighter with its sucky shield. I can't type - can't RP - when I have rheinland police patrols pounding their heavy guns on my feeble shield. I have to fly around and dodge. I don't want to shoot the patrols because it's pretty ooRP to shoot the police right infront of the army whilst still talking and being neutral. But I can't ignore them either. So in the end I didn't get to RP as much as I'd like, and we had to go into the PvP early. RP is the whole point of disco, and NPCs have no capacity to take it in to account.

Should a Kusari guy attacking Leeds be murdered by the Derby's guns and patrols? Yes. Should a Kusarian trying to defect and pass information to the BAF at Leeds be murdered by the Derby's guns and patrols? No. But the Derby doesn't care about RP.

Thing is, I understand how unfeasible a lot of this is. But if there were at least less patrols in 'empty' areas, then there would always be somewhere you could RP with your opponents. As it is, you can be 10k off the plane in the middle of nowhere, and bounty hunters still spawn to get in the way and be no fun at all. Around planets, stations, 'high security areas', even tradelanes, sure. But at least give the people who want to RP some respite and opportunity to actually do it.

In my personal opinion the current NPC situation is a good thing. I mean the fact transports can have thier shields taken out in hostile systems now and the omicrons. I no longer feel safe flying my cash maker through normal systems down there without an escort. I think this is a good thing as it encourages people to hire escorts while trading.

On the point of fighter spawns they are indeed stronger than they were but personally i do not mind the amount of firepower that they can bring to a fight. It is once again bringing the advantage back to fighting on your home turf. Something that was sorely lacking in the last version.

All in all it is a definite NO to NPC weakening from me then from me then.

/signed first post, dunno why there are so many in favor of keeping them strong. my brother tried playing single player... he stopped playing in frustration as the level 1 NPCs in New York kept raping him. Not cool.

I voted to keep em the same. I love the new NPCs. They are in no way as hard as players though.

Yeah, and as a result of this we have criminals taking the military back to their 'secret' asteroid bases so that they get an advantage in the fight. Wow.

I think for missions they should be nerfed, but they are fine as they are elsewhere, they encourge team-play.

Come on! Be free!
