In 4.84, I could evade GB missiles verry easy, without even using the CMs.
This.
While I would abstain from "easily" I observed that gunboat missiles are now tenacious little punks. Furthermore, the efficacy of CD spam seems dubious at best.
Last night, whilst fighting Mon'Star, I exhausted my CM supply within seconds. No problem, thinks Dusty, I'll just throw on a little more juke and jive.
No real effect. The missile warning mabob would not stop yelling at me no matter how I jinked, strafed or barrel rolled. Got to the point where in order to survive I had to EK and try to thrust above them, which worked with mixed results whilst being chased by the afor mentioned Mon'Star.
HOWEVER. That was him, with his zomghalp missile swarms. The situation would have been much more manageable were it only a single missile coming at me occasionally, as opposed to multiple constantly.
... I'm lucky he switched targets partway through, he had no idea how close he was to reducing the number of bombers plucking away at him from two to one.
Contrary to what some are saying, the gunboat missiles and gunboats as a whole have indeed been nerfed.
Significantly. Whereas before they were somewhat overpowered, at this point a gunboat almost useless against anything more than a single fighter or bomber with a halfway decent pilot.
And while missiles should involve some aiming, they are not guns and they should not be treated as such. Two out of three times these days the missiles do a weird little spin thingy without even heading towards the target.
And for half of the gunboat's energy consumption? You might as well just remove gunboat missiles from the game. Now, dusty, you describe gunboat missiles as swarms? In a Corsair GB you can't even fire two without completely exhausting your energy.

Grimly is talking about the Necrosis, which can fire four(?) gunboat missiles at a time and has a power grid to handle it. I can fire two and that reduces my Power Capacitance to 0, then I have to wait for the whole cap bar to regen if I want to send two more missiles out at a time. More missiles = more chances to hit and more power = more opportunities of which an advantage can be taken. A full power bar for 6400 (x2) damage, because my character is not Bretonian, not Kusari, not a Blood Dragon, but a Molly. One or both may not hit, and then there I am, watching their shield regen in peace until I manage to land another pulse cannon blast or battlerazor on it.

If you read all of the words I used youll get a much stronger idea of the idea I was attempting to communicate.
But, to return to the point, gunboat missiles are certainly not in the position they held in 84. In other words, the end all be all weapon to remove snubcraft from the equation. But theyre still tools, and effective ones at that. With a little timing they provide a satisfying crunch of damage against a target. Razors that track and seek out their targets, in other words.
The idea was to prevent you from equipping your gunboat entirely with anti-cap weaponry while maintaining a pair of missiles to casually murder pursuing bombers, as was the custom in 84.
*grins* I dare suggest that one of the reasons that gunboats are so theoretically horrible right now are because that you all learned bad habits.
I think having to wait and take an accurate, well thought shot is underrated.
Boost the damage a bit, make it something you can't just smash the Q key with, but if setup right, a good missile could be devastating.

If that's the case, then it's probably better to leave the missiles as they are. It just seems different when you're flying the gunboat. Anyway, sorry to all for getting excitable.
The best use I've found for the GB missiles is to mount them to back-ward facing turrets.
People tend to creep into your six and it's a very nasty surprise for them to fly into 2 missiles. Giving you time to execute the turn to face them when they start dodging. And while you are turning your energy has re-generated nicely.
The missiles are fine. In damage and energy use. It prevents spamming but are still useful.
