i think, that the only ID's that should have this would be gaurd ID's. and only for factions that are hostile.
also. i have several characters that have an id. and ether no IFF or an IFF of a diffrent faction. if we did this at all, it would be very anoying in some ways.

its cause a Lane hacker has no business flying around the outcast guard systems. Even the other outcasts are rarely friendly with their own guard faction which i think is for the best.
Yes, there is a plugin that can auto-rep a ship with a certain ID and it was used on Outcast and Corsair IDs in the way Virus described - making enemies hostile. I'm not sure if it's still active.
Also Virus is an admin, his response could be considered official, even though he didn't seem too certain.

Some wise man said that if you have little or nothing to say, remain silent. A hint for you.
I really expect some creative criticism, both praising or denying this idea - it could just make it better or show me there's no point in working on it. Your post heads in neither of these directions.

It would be good feature. Mount an ID and your rep is set properly to your faction. It should also set the rep solid to prevent stupid things, like eg. killing BH makes you friendly for your other unlawfull enemies. Even being trader, sometimes I would like to shoot back some annoying NPCs but I can't, because it would ruin my rep to others. When I play my role, I should do, what NPCs of my faction do, but they don't have to worry about their rep table.
Someone said somewhere: set your rep and don't shoot NPCs after, only rp with other players, but I like to do missions, I like to shoot NPCs. It is fun.
(when I run local server I installed FLShell, and there is /restart command. There are some templates defined: corsair, hunter, navy, xeno, outcast etc. If you are under 10lvl, you can use it. This put you into nearest friendly base, you get the rep and LF ship that suit your chosen faction.)

Oh, I see.
So Outcasts aren't supposed to bring their capital ships outside of Omicron-85? That makes plenty of sense.
... wait no it doesn't.
My point this entire time, since it seems to have escaped people, is that a guard IFF should not be forced along with the ID because it does create problems. But, hey, we can just keep pretending there aren't any if you want.
So, few days later I came back here to post general rules for the idea.
Just to some kind of sort it after I was thinking it over some time now.
In my opinion, mounting the ID should:
- Adjust the reputation to the faction you have joined, that is:
1) make rep with your enemies hostile
2) make rep with your friends friendly
3) leave the rest as it is
- Adjustment should not be consistent to prevent abusing the ID to shoot friendly NPCs with no effect on rep sheet
Why?
To help roleplay become more... roleplay. That is not a roleplay if LN ship is friendly with Corsairs. That is not a roleplay if a LN ship can get to Gamma unbothered by NPCs. There is a reason why they are more dangerous near their home systems, now is there?
I know that if I would like to make really hardcore-roleplay the IFF should be unchangeable after the ID is mounted. Maybe so, but both solutions won't prevent abusement anyway. There is a rule - if someone wants to abuse something, he will do it anyway. At least the rest of people willing to take a part in pure roleplay should be pleased.

Well, the Guard ID has been named for some reason. I suspect like guarding your home system and it's nearest space. How's that?

What problems, Sir? Just saying that it causes problems doesn't give me any idea on what you mean.
I suspect the issue is a Guard ID's description is the same as the faction it is related to so I don't really know why by default they are hostile to almost anyone. Any idea?
