I usually ask for 500k from traders. If they're in a small boat, like the Perch I pirated today, I'll only ask 100k or even less. I'm always opened to being haggled down, too. The only time I ask for 1mil or more is if I catch a max cargo transport, and Adv. Train or one of the Super Transports.

So, if you want cheaper pirate fees, swing by California and be pirated by the Rogues!

But really... 500k won't even up my bomber with Ammo if its' empty. So if I lose even one fight, I'm down on profit already. Not that I ever die, but usually I have to sundive or get an ally to kill me once we've finished fighting.

And lastly, Fozzie, don't assume that all Pirates are heartless bastards. And we're not lazy, either. We work damn hard to squeese the credits out of stingy traders with the exact same thought pattern as you. We kill more traders than we pirate, because most of the time they don't even attempt to RP, they just run until we get fed up and kill them, or they shoot us without a word. You're right, we don't pirate for the credits. We pirate for the roleplay, and most of the time, we get neither. We pirates bring the spice into your boring, tasteless gruel that is trading. Because, believe it or not, you too are roleplaying when you are trading, also.

Let me tell a little story from a recent event in Colorado, and you can take it as either pro-pirate or against pirates, cause I don't have any side picking here.

I was nicely trading Neon from Libby to Kyushu, and two pie rats stopped me.
They went like.. 4 mill each one.

And I was '4 mil each one what?'
They probably figured, oh look here comes the oorp CR guy, let's tell him to payrdai.
Then I RPed, made them feel a bit ashamed, haggled, bargained, made excuses, and from '4 mil each one' I got to '500k each one'.

Then I paid one, and docked to the lane and escaped without paying the other one.

And so, little Lee Barret got out from paying 8 million to paying 500 thousand.

And everyone lived happily ever after. Well not quite, but that's another story.

Well nighthawk you are to be commended. You're playing the game in a reasonable fashion. Unfortunately you are in a tiny minority. The vast majority of the time I get hit 2 or 3 times per run by pirates demanding millions upon millions and it's left a sour taste in my mouth. My rp suffers when I am preocupied by trying to make enough money to finance my gaming. I just get pissed that I am getting pirated yet again by someone demanding 3 mil+. I have to trade because running missions is a cash losing proposition. Npcs are too hard to kill and the loot they drop is worth very little compared to ship damage and ammo costs.

Walp, this thread o' mine seems to have gone entirely off-topic. Mods, you might as well lock it on up.

I hate trading. I would love to see mission pay increased, and pilot worth increased, so that you can fight your way, not trade, to the top.

On the US 24/7 RP server, I worked up a BH from scratch. He's my most fun character to fly, because I've done mission after mission to work him up to a Hammerhead.

Last time I pirated someone on my Molly, I demanded his shoes and nothing else.

The bugger tried to run. I've only gotten good RP out of unusual demands a couple times.

and yes, the thread is wayyy off topic at this point.

the short ansewer? no.

the long ansewer? this would take a long time to make it work, and when it did, it would just be a source of frusttration for every one. the traders would get pissed at pirates for demanding 1 million, which would now be worth 10 million, and not to mention the IND, who have BILLIONS of credits stored up. they would be crazy rich, because their 5-9 billion, would now be worth 50-90 BILLION. a bit much. i dont want a player wipe, becasue that would make me lose a lot of money and stuff.i belive that the trade system is fine. i would not mind if it was made better. i can understand that you want money to be worth less, but in the end, it just means that all the devs will spend to much time on it. and end up ether giving up, or getting pissed off at us for making them do this.

Do a player wipe.

Make credits a-lot more demanding.

And it might actually improve-RP...

The [LN] would be able to maybe fund MK VIII Armor for their fighters while Pirates might be stuck with some low-down armor... Unelss they go crazy rich.

I kinda like it.
