Coming right from a discussion where I say I want other things more than ships, I'm going to request a bretonian Dreadnaught.

My idea for it, based on Seth Karlo's recent Battlecruiser idea, involves a ship which consists of a spine, where all the primary systems are, and then stretching out below it, two 'wings' of armour.
Something like this(I did this in paint, I hope it conveys my idea):

here's the concept:
Shrimp!

If you notice, the armour plating along the tail of the shimp...yes.

Also, if we look at the ship size distribution here..bret BB is already a 'light' battleship, they'd be better aided by a Dreadnaught.

(also, if a modeler/texturer were to toss out new mine models, new base models, new starscapes, etc, That'd be awesome)

...You're crazy, Em, but you know what? I'll see what I can come up with. Texture not included.

Is it needed?

Bretonia has: Light BS, medium destroyer*, and a heavy gunboat
Kusari has: Heavy BS, light destroyer, and a light gunboat (Well, the explorer is rarely used in combat)

So it seems well balanced, and considering that both sides may be getting battlecruisers, I think we have enough caps for now.

*I'm not quite sure about this one, but I think its medium or heavy-ish.

Right. About the 'needed' question. Nothing. In. Disco. Is. Necessary.
None of it. For that matter? Vanilla, not needed. Everything added simply enhances the system, nothing more.

I think the love people have for making things bigger and bigger and bigger and...

Yes, well, this love for making things bigger isn't necessarily increasing quality. All it does is make things that are supposed to be big (The Ring station, for instance) look small, screwing with immersion. That and Bretonia would probably want to get more efficient with its resources, being on the back foot. Something like fighters in WW2 being made from bottle caps.

An alternative, lighter gunboat might be possible, or a light destroyer might be cool.

The battle cruiser has potential, but the central hull could do with being made bulkier, so that it fits with the wings.

Signed for the Light Destroyer, I find the main destroyer a touch out of place. I'm not sure they need a full blown dreadnaught.

There was an idea for a Bretonian Advanced Gunboat around somewhere wasn't there at some point? Looked a little like a horseshoe crab and was rather flat. I quite liked the look of that, but everything seemed to grind to a halt on it in March.
I think this is the thread:

You know, guys, don't disqualify the Dreadnought yet. While I think that, once they get to the Taus it's not going to help as much, I imagine that making a single large, very powerful warship with extremely good survivability and lots of firepower as opposed to two smaller ones isn't necessarily a bad thing for the Bretonians, since this is now officially a defensive war. Small ships can be separated and destroyed independently; big ones have to be cracked all at once. It's like an early WWI tank-it didn't have to go fast, because it was very difficult to destroy them, and was very good for slowly and steadily pushing back trenchlines, which, let's face it, is what the Bretonians are doing at this point-their immediate concern must be chasing the KNF out of Leeds and back into Tau-31.

This is NOT finished, it is not even CLOSE to finished, I haven't even added engines yet. I was inspired. I think I like it. It's a little weird, and the poly count will have tripled by the time I'm done, but I think I like it. Yes, I copied the HMS Hood for a lot of this, it seemed logical. (live long and prosper, yo) Also, the warship bits will be less evident once I'm done, they're sort of a reverse-scaffold at the moment until I can detail the rest of it.
