if you select the gunboat missile manually and fire even a stupid wasp at it, the missile goes poof.
I've been flying with a missile on a hacker gunship, and it's just fine, I think. It doesn't rape, but must be annoying for the opponent. My hit rate is very high, too - but I don't use it often. I think it's balanced now, as we've got several groups of people screaming how they're too good or too bad. Oh and missiles aren't fire-and-forget weapons. There are ways how to improve your hit rate. Though the gunboat ones are fairly easy to hit with, I admit.

I would take a GB missile turret over a Battle Razor gun or a Pulse gun.
I'm just glad not every player uses them, or the admins might nerf them (again?).

We have something like that already. Only they don't track, and you have to aim your mouse at the red cross on the screen. They're called "Guns." It might be a difficult concept for some people to pick up, though.
From the mixed results and inputs in this thread, I'd venture to guess that missiles finally require skill to use. A GB pilot who fires and forgets or simply tries to spam them will recieve nothing but sucked energy, while a pilot who uses them carefully and with a bit of acuity will be rewarded with kills. Just a thought, though. I'm not a GB pilot, and I haven't fought any gunboat missiles since the update (except that KNF Gb that I tried to solo in my Orchid. He hit me with his missiles but it didn't feel like they were impossible to dodge... and the fact that I had a heavy CM hurt.)
Now if only fighter missiles could be the same...

Ehm...no. You see, guns don't do splash damage. That's why they're guns.
Actually, Flak is pretty close at this point. It's just an unfortunate following of the dev's design of 'scare the bombers' as opposed to 'KILL the bombers,' (which I posit is because most of them that have actual influence are bomber whores) hence it may or may not be underpowered still.

hey, i may be a bomber whore primarily, but i own my fair share of caps, eppy:P
but yeah, the gb missiles hit quite a bit now from what ive seen in fights, and thus they are fine as they are. they dont need a reduction of power usage, cuz that means more missiles are mounted and spammed (since they only need energy to fire, not ammo)

*sigh* I guess my attempt at humor was misunderstood by some.
I'm a bomberwhore and personally, I would like to see Gunboats get better. They're far too easy to kill, now. Granted I'm not the best bomber pilot, and I still can't solo a GB, but with another bomber, or even another fighter on my side... it's just not a challenge. Gunboats have become more like extremely super heavy fighters.
Or maybe it's that the old Gunboats changed so much, and people are still fly them as if it were 4.84.
