LOL this whole thread about new ships appears to be degrading into technology of said ships an weapons maybe a weapon thread should be made ?

Pi-rate skiff.

Basically a hijacked and heavily modified house transport (Percheron, Mammoth, etc) with a smattering of transport turrets and a GB forward "deck gun" type thing. Plus visible engine upgrades (like with the Percheron put two engines between the "wings" and the hull), a beat up, battle damaged texture and enough cargo to cargo pirate. Sacrificing armor and cargo (of the original ship) for speed and firepower.

I've been kicking the idea of a torpedo frigate about for awhile. A vessel the size of a gunboat or small cruiser, a torpedo frigate would be armed with several high-yield, slow-moving, non-tracking heavy torpedos.

The frigate's sole purpose in life would be to bring these heavy torpedoes to bear against larger capital class vessels, slipping in quickly, delivering a crippling blow, and getting out.

The torpedo tubes would dominate the chassis to such an extent that a smaller reactor would be used to save on space. Thus, the frigate would carry no turrets of any kind. This would serve to lock the vessel into its niche and prevent it being overpowered against fighters or bombers.

I think there was a talk about something like swarm missiles ... i like it but seems they create lag ... don't know ...

Well ... i have a little idea ...fast agile only bombers ... it can be modified fighters with HF shield without no guns expect 1 - 2 torpedo slots that can fire only nova torpedo or something like that that does lower damage ... i am sure no one would like to see fighter with supernova ... ( ofc slower then standard fighters )

and very slow strong bombers that would have like 4 torpedo slots and no guns with more hull and better shield then other VHF -Bomber shield or something like that ...

then there is torpedo frigate ... nice idea btw ErikSorensen ...

But with all of these classes ... capital ships would be a bit weak ... so i heard someone to limit caps and add more weapons and hull ... with this 3 new classes that could be done without limiting cap ship numbers ... so increasing power of cruisers and above would make balance ...

We would have then LF > HF > VHF > Light bomber > Bomber ( like now) > Heavy Bombers > Gunboats (gunships) > Torpedo figates > Cruisers(all kinds from BC to Order carrier) > Battleships ( Carriers and other types)

this is cool signature

LANDING CRAFT!!!! something that is supposed to punch through the atmosphere and deliver troops, armor, and supplies to the surface fast. Maybe something like the Basilisks War Droids of Star Wars. Every House should have them. How do they fight their wars without them.

Also we need torpedo boats. I say put 6 torpedo tubes and then 1 gunboat turret and 2 level 10 fighter guns. Make it fast, make it maneuver (for a large ship) and then make it lightly armored.

Interceptor ships, even lighter than light fighters. They have virtually no armor or weapons, but are small, agile, and strong in numbers. I'm talking about a ship with Bloodhound or starflier armor that can mount maybe 2 class 8 guns at max. Another feature could be that they travel at 400 Cruise engine speed. Class 6 Light Fighter shield max. No cruise disrupter, but it comes with a special thruster that adds an actual speed boost to afterburners (maybe 50 extra speed boost?). My reasons for no CD is that it could easily be abused to chase down escaping transports. It wouldn't need Counter measures either because you could thruster away from fights if need be. You could also dodge missiles fairly easily, so Counter measures might give it an unfair advantage over missile users. There would be a mine layer, so that way you can mount Screamers on them so that you can actually do Hull damage with the guns. My idea of the balancing of a ship like this would be that they are twice as weak as a Light Fighter, so that way they can be destroyed very easily. A ship that is extremely hard to hit, but when you hit it, it could mean doom to the pilot. To further ensure that they are balanced, there could be a feature that instantly blows them up if they were to collide with a missile or a mine. Picture 4 of these interceptors attacking a Sabre. There would be a flurry of lasers hitting the Sabre from all directions, severly hurting it. The Sabre launches a mine, and two of the interceptors accidently hit it. They are instantly destroyed, leaving 2 of the Interceptors to try and take it down. This should be very difficult as 2 Interceptors should be meant to fight a Light Fighter and win. I'm not sure, it could be unbalanced, but I would kill for a ship that had a speed boost over other fighters.

I support the Frigate class of ships. Frigates are more like the scalpels of combat. There are different types, and they all fulfill one specific role. Such as a Flak frigate. It would be great against fighters and bombers, but is useless against capital ships, and bombers would also be able to take it out, like all other caps. Another one would be the aforementioned Torpedo frigate. Sole purpose is to blow up heavy capital ships, therefore useless against fighters and bombers. The Assault frigate is another good idea, a frigate designed to do some heavy hitting against smaller or medium caps, but unable to defend itself from fighter attack. A suicide frigate might be fun as well. Designed for the sole purpose of exploding and destroying everything around it, this frigate would be piloted by people who will be put to death anyways, so no waste. It would run into a formation of capital ships and detonate its explosives, doing heavy damage to the capital ships. The tradeoff would be that it would be very vulnerable to attack.

Well.....

I was thinking, now that the Freelancers have an actual base in Coranado (and it's a big base too), what about a line of Freelancer specific ships?

Perhaps the Freelancers could enter into a contract with <insert ship building company> to build a line of ships for them.

Freelancers already have access to Fighters, right from light up to HF and Bombers (all made by CTE I think)
and a handful of light freighters.

Why not have a line of 'warships' that are basic in form and function that can be used/purchased by the masses?

I'm not talking about Battle ships, a single Freelance/Civilian wouldn't be able to afford them, but say up to a 'light' Frigate or Cruiser.
