[IFF] Independence For Freelancers
(was a little unsure what npc faction to start out as, but i saw freelancers needed one so im winging it a bit here to fill a gap, will need feedback)
General Summary: Many are disillusioned with the petty bureaucracy of the ruling houses, but the minor factions seldom offer enough diversity to satify most. the [IFF] seperatists are swallowing up these lost souls with promises of new leadership in the outer worlds, a cohesive vision of independance.
Men and women from all fringe societies are being targeted, Junkers, Zoners, Freelancers, Mercs and even some quasi-legal and blatantly illegal citizens.
The political agenda of the [IFF] is to massage diplomatic relations with those fringe factions that will not overly bristle at a new uninvited neighbor, and to prepare for war against those that would seek to prevent the formation of a new nation.[/color]
Possible directions: ID zoner, freelancer, merc. Location; outside of house space, final location TBA (yes some of these areas are already claimed, but few declarations of independence go without wars)
Potential Allies; All neutral/ independant factions, any 'moral' factions trying to destabilise their own governments (for this example Hogosha would be a good ally, but Xeno would not)
Potential Enemies; All official services (e.g police, navy) of houses that would object to a new nation forming, almost certainly Liberty. Some factions based in the outer worlds (highly dependant on chosen sector of space) for example, the order, corsairs, outcasts.
More general data; in summary, the [IFF] will work covertly in the begining, predominantly under iff's such as freelancer or miner, quietly building up wealth and diplomatic ties. Eventually we will be seen to converge on a sector of space and claim it by might (this is around the time i should consider making the faction official)..this will go on for some time as the plan is to fight for political dominance over 3 or 4 connected systems.
about me; played freelancer since its creation, never too seriously, untill i found discovery. Even then i never put too much time in as i 2 guilds on everquest, first one for a year the 2nd one for 3 years, managing several hundred characters, always managing to keep morale high enough that numbers went up not down like many other new guilds. Been playing EQ for nigh on a decade now, but decided it was time to move on. apart from some light gaming on savage, warzone2100 and a few other (mainly opensource) projects, disco gets all my playing time and i wish to make an impact.
Other staff and data TBA...feedback appreciated!

Sounds mostly like a zoner faction. People who dont like the house rules and want to go someplace else. Except they want to be more unified than the zoners. Still, I would go for zoner ID.
Also I would like to say that there are other people that want to do something like this and have been thinking about it much longer than you. I could introduce them to you if you like.
Finally, Igiss will probably never include a dock able planet for a faction that is player conceived. Sorry, just dont think it will happen, hasn't happened yet. Igiss has a plan for the theme and progression of this mod and what you are doing will never be more than a tangent. At least this is the impression I am under based on my experience here.
As example I would like to site the SCRA and =CR=. They both have some pretty good RP backgrounds. They are long standing player factions with many respected members and continual presence. Neither has a dockable planet. I'm not saying your idea is impossible, just saying it will not be at all easy, and very likely, will not be possible. This is not necessarily a good reason not to try though.
Oh and I will replace this with something substantial eventually.
Also, most people type up their faction ideas elsewhere and then copy and paste, or sut wait till they are done typing to hit post...
well, i been keeping it close to the chest for the moment and had an hour between college and playing so i freehanded whats been in my mind for a while. and i like to reserve posts when i write stuff as im obliged to hurry up! forced self motivation;)

Well, mate, I'll be frank; you need something a lot more concrete and complete than this if you're going to start throwing around ideas. Beyond that, I see a fundamental flaw in your detailed plan already, that being the idea of a 'Freelancer Faction;' Freelancers aren't really supposed to have an organized system, seeing as the term freelancer suggests one who works for himself...if you really think you can come up with something out of this, keep trying, but be advised, I don't see a particularly bright future for this idea of yours.

Are not freelancers independent already? Is this a plan to expand their freedom by urging them to work under the codes of an organization? Sounds like a contradiction to me.

im inclined to agree, but its a bit of a pickle...there isnt really an ID one can get if trying to establish a new faction...the initial idea was to be a zoner faction wanting to be more than just a drifter nation, but was trying to fill the gap in the freelancer section.
as to more concrete, well the advice thread i read right before this write up said specifically not to be too detailed so its a catch 22.
/oorp ive seen a couple of juicy little areas of space that are easy to guard, 3 systems and only 2 ways in..its one of those my guys will be fighting for, im trying to wrap a sensible plot around why a faction would want to do this,
