Yeah, please do add this. I'm one of those people that consistantly forgets to add /l after a long speech, alerting the authorities and bringing a lolswarm down on my head. An on/off switch would be ve-ery useful.

Great idea! Fully support and agree with it. If its possible to do this.

Local chat should be default. System chat should require /s to use.

Would make the communication system a little more realistic and easy to use.

Like broadcastng on most public frequencies in-rl, not 'everyone' should be able to use them. There could even be RP and or Rules based on it being illegal to use the system channel without good reason. Such as:
- News Channels reporting the daily updates on public events and or political stuff.
- Corporations and maybe some weapons dealers broadcasting advertisements for thier buisness.
- Police and Military using it to organize and or control crowds and to help locate unlawfuls (all points bulletins, warrants, ect).
- Hackers and pirates broadcasting propaganda, ect.

Since everything in system chat is supposed to be in-RP at all times anyways,

Alright, here it is - we all know pirates want to remain hidden while pirating passing transports (at least the pirates want that). So when they pirate - they use the "/l" chat for communicating and demanding cargo. BUT! Sometimes the trader attempts to delay the pirate, making him answer some stupid questions and negotiating for less tax. That makes the pirate forget to write "/l" and....the police in the system sees the action going on and starts looking for the pirate. They find him and arrest him.

Here is the actual request - make a command to turn on/off the "/l" chat. Doing so would help people chat faster, easier and will spare us some headache when we forget to write it eveery time we chat. Make the command something like "/lon" and "/loff". If you can, make it permanently on even if we enter a different system, until one turns it off.

Whoever thinks its useful, support me by writing in this thread. That would help make communications more realistic, when even groups use it instead of group chat, that helps demand cargo in a group faster (e.g. 3 pirates talk to a trader + their group at the same time)

Lets not forget about the "private channel taxing"....that doesent look very nice in green now, does it?:DHe wants you to think of the "green"...think of your poor cash flowing over to the pirate's ugly piece of space boat....and its kind of creepy, he knows your private channel...he knows where you live:Dand he wants your cash!

Can we have local chat set as the default and use a / command for a system-wide broadcast?

If not is there a way we can have a command to default to local, like /set localchat on?

I support the default chat being local chat. It is odd having it set to System. (When I try greeting another player I just ran into by New London, I manage to greet the entire system.........when I cannot see them nor have I seen them. Not logical to me.)

Side note: Any way to turn on/off the new player/departing player messages? Or at least make them smaller?

yeah, again throwing up my support for this, not for any piracy reasons, but if local was default that new players started with, it would definitely decrease the system spam.
