The final products after years of research and development finally spawned in the shipyards of the Liberty military this white giant beast of a ship, the Apollo heavy carrier. Designed to serve as the ultimate weapon in the naval arsenal, it boasts enormous offensive and defensive capabilities. Flag among the flagships, this vessel symbolize libertonian military might.

//After 12 failed attempts, from the distant concept carrier of the Washington class, to the actual Atlantis class in game... here's finally... the result. Hope you people like it.

5126 polycount and a thousand fold smaller texture file.

I like the current carrier model much better.

Besides that, can we please stop replacing decent models and start replacing all those butt-ugly homeworld ships and other imports?

there is a problem with the actual carrier being way too demanding on texture (overwhelming 4mb size if I recall, way too big for FL) which causes server lag.

and anyhow, I received complaints by people actually using the carrier on how ugly it is, and anyhow the landing pod really made no sense (too small). So there's a replacement. No idea what you love so much about the previous model since you so hated it.

when did I say I hated the original/previous model?

This one just... doesnt look right. It doesnt, IMO, fit the same scheme as other liberty ships, the flat / open docking area in the center of the ship doesnt look like it would be an efficient or functional way of launching and retrieving fighters, and it's too long. Looks like a cross between a luxury liner and a modern-day nimitz carrier, not something we shoudl be seeing in freelancer.

Sorry to bash, I mean it constructively - I just dont think this model fits. I wasnt aware the current one strains memory or textures so much, I havent encountered many in-game, but I still much prefer the general design of that craft.

Oh Yue! it's gorgeous

O_o if it's less demanding on texture than the current carrier my compie should love it xD

I do love it, it's pure powerful sexiness.

The main reason why I want a long and large area for a hangar, despite many illogical complaint (although I noticed a battlestar had exactly the same feature of a long run way...)... it is to make a contrast with the order light carrier. Order light carrier systems are cramped in very restrained space. aesthetically speaking, it gives the impression of a very compact vessel for quick hit and run tactic.

Meanwhile, Liberty carrier serves as a flag for massive naval engagement. It carries enormous amount of ship. It feels powerful by its size, the feel that the Libertonian military can build as big as they feel like. Sure, the runway may seem totally useless - and, probably are they, although I see them as quick launch and return pad, but they do remind of the contemporary carriers which are massive and use flatdecks.

anyhow, I intend it as replacement mainly to fix that bug. The previous texture files included two 1024x1024 files, and various other files of large size. Now it's only reduced to... like, three 256x256 and only one 512x512 texture files. Very economic.

small nota: yes, the texture of this ship is not exactly the normal liberty one. It is whiter. That's... about it.

I actually had no problem with the .84 one, but meh. This one's great, Yue, although the engine looks a little off. Too high, maybe? I dunno. I've never been an artistic person.

Edit - Reckon I can fly my Liberator through there?

For the Core.

Maybe even a rhino. with some luck, a mammoth. If (I guess gurjv, wont you? please?) make a custom hitbox, I expect you might even fly a gunship through for all it matters lol

If it were up to me, I'd close in that center section, and add two long launch bays along the sides of the ship. Spacecraft are built more like submarines than surface ships, you have to have some way of keeping everything inside that you dont want blowing out into space.

How exactly do pilots get to their ships if those ships are in a bay that's open to space?
