' Wrote:I'd like to combine these two posts, as it shows exactly the problem, in my opinion. Let's take the situation in Rheinland: we have the Gottkanzler as the lone dictator and the Rheinland Military enforcing the law with high brutality. If this isn't what you want to see, then join the Red Hessians, the Volksfront, or fight the military as a lone terrorist with one of those IDs. Nobody will stop you from doing so... and that's the point!

A faction occupies a certain territory, enforces the local laws. You can follow these laws or fight them. If you don't choose one of these possibilities, then stay the heck out. There is a lot of space out there, which you can discover.

I'm totally for this system, as it stands for the essence of 'Free'-lancer.

Well put Ventana. I can't really think of anything to add that would sound different from what you just said. I'm a firm believer that there is an RP answer to EVERYTHING. Most people nowadays are so worried about getting someone sanctioned over silliness that it ruins everyone's fun eventually.

So to reiterate what Ventana said, if a dictator rises up don't worry about it, just join the rebellion. Then if the rebellion wins you can form a new republic or become the new dictator yourself.

Imagine the possibilities!

Quote:Well ... guess I'm the lonely NO vote ... or at least the 1st NO vote.

The only way I would change my vote to YES is if the official faction leadership operated with a bit of restraint and maturity. Merc bans and such are annoying as all get out. Don't care how in role play you think it is ... it totally disrupts everyone else from having fun on the server. If these faction leaders wanna do role play bans ... then they need to be specific. Ban a specific faction (official or unofficial) ... ban individual mercs that misbehave and such. But generic bans on an entire ID pisses me off to no end.

Official factions with too much power tend to dominate everything ... we don't need some lone immature dictator ruining everyone else's fun just so they can have a power trip.
I guess that in order to avoid abuse, the members of the Admin team or a group of players should be named to look after them and check that they don't abuse their powers.

Quote:Edit: Have abstained from voting, until I see a proposed groundwork with protocols for factions to operate under.
The groundwork will be determined based on the feedback from this very thread.

Well then, I would like to hear suggestions to be put forth into this groundwork by the community.

I have already suggested no monetary influence and an appeals system. What else does everyone think is necessary?

Anything I say is not intended as offensive, and to try and deliberately misinterpret it as such would be an attempt at trolling via misrepresentation.

It's not a conspiracy, it's localised bias. They're not intelligent enough to form a conspiracy.

We need more players in official factions and a LOT LESS of these weekly unofficial factions that rise up out of nowhere. Sign up bonuses, Event invitations, Forum space. these are what we have to work with so....let's elaborate what can bring the incentive for the individual player to want to join.

In my experience, throughout the years, having a dead (unnamed) Faction that needs recruits start them off in lowly little pip-squeak ships and a list of requirements hinders the call to join. Other factions that gladly give you too much can just lose people in a name change. I do not know of any greater incentives other than glory and money. So.......this is a long shot.....Money for winning "regulated" pvp official events.

Yup, cash, fame, all that for winning a scheduled event. Roster of participants will recieve $$$ for winning and their name written in frosting on a cake. There isn't much more to draw people into the clans. What if there was a 200mill win on a 10vs10 player BAF vs. KNF event? could it help the KNF gain people? Maybe, but if it worked then the Emporer would hve some more subjects to rule over, and some indies would be sad to see themselves uninvited to the mess.

Just a theory.

To have more power you must raise above all other ranks to rule. To rule you have to have someone to rule over. To get people to join the subordinates is bribery.

People have complained that official factions have lost power, therefore there appear to have been moves (from what I've heard) to further restrict unofficials. This shouldn't be done. Official factions should have greater power to police indies and unofficial factions and keep them in check, as their official status means they have most likely proven themselves responsible enough to do so. They should also be able to influence Disco canon to some degree, though not of course to the same degree as Igiss as it is, after all, his server. If people think official status isn't worth the credits, give more things to official factions rather than restricting unofficials.

Heh I knew you were going to vote "No" mate:D

This is why I disliked the term "power", official factions don't need more power, what they need is "respect". Like it or not the official factions are trying to role play the NPC faction they represent. Anyone who dislikes this arrangement and is incapable of following a very simple hierarchy should look to a faction that does not have an "official" player faction and join them.

Official factions are not ruled by despots, they are run by players with support and concensus from the highest ranked players in that faction. Sometimes the RP takes you too places that we would rather not go, for example the merc ban or the current Liberty trade embargo. The Merc ban was a pain to enforce and the embargo is just as bad, trying to enforce a trade embargo while avoiding 3 lolboats out to spam your lone fighter to death gets boring pretty fast.

Still I'd like to see official factions achieve the respect they should hold and in the future any major policy made by an official faction that may be considered controversial is reviewed bt the admins and either approved or denied.

no we dont need more people ion official factions nessarrly(save for the knf they can take al lthe help they can get /KSP too) we need more responsable "leader indies"to help control the realms of the official space

ie work WITH the LNS or HMS or whatever also be allowed to take action if needed (such as fireing on allied ships)imigian this senario i go to the mithball yards with say 1500 men board the battleship missouri by bribeing the guards take her for a spin and say send some 16 inch love to north korea or something"because there my enemy" as the krean war never ended(they kinda just threw down there guns and walked off)

you can be damn sure the United States Navy would use whatever they coud to take the ship back and in the event boarding and capture failed they would blow the thing up

that is just an example of how much the official factions have lost so much power to the point were Indies dont listen to them, why BECAUSE OF NO CONSAQUENCES INRP(sanctionable acts aside)

Jimmy, yours won't be harmed by any of this, because you're actually RPing a squadron/battlegroup, and not as the whole NPC faction itself (and RPing it well, I might add).

It's kinda like you RPing the R&D section of DSE, instead of making another DSE faction. That's it essentially.

What makes you believe that factions only consist of LNS and HMS, which are capital ships? Even the biggest indy LNS-I.Am.Great should take orders from an Admiral in an Avenger.

The leaders of the official factions are in their positions for a reason. And this reason is mostly the outstanding RP skill and the will to comply to the server rules. Imagine some lolwutting rookie creating a faction like this messy [RSS]... there is no RP at all.

And this is the reason why independents 'should' take orders from the official factions, when it comes to the military.

Independent traders are a completely other business.

I agree with the fact official factions should get more authority, as long as it is not detrimental for the fun of others (so no id bans, fees to fly a ship or enter system, no forcing indies into uncannon rp,...).
What I would like to see is the factions showing how things should be done, play together with indies instead of just saying "back off r dai", give some trusted indies authority as well,...
