All the pirates I've been pirated by give an engagement notice, well except the one time when........*goes of into a rant about rule breakers*, the first pirate I ever got pirated by was good old Phate, thanks!

Oh they blowing my guns off!

And by the way in original Freelancer the NPC's would give a engagement notice before trying to blow you sky high.

THE RULE READS AS FOLLOWS:
Attacking without an engagement notice is not allowed. All attacks must be preceded with some form of RP, (HOW MANY FORMS OF RP ARE THERE), regardless of NPC Faction diplomacy.

Pirates feel they don't have to obey this rule! So why do the others when it comes to attacking Pirates!
Pirates can detect another ship as far away as 14k. By the time you give notice of engagement they are fleeing and claiming that no engagement was possible because the attacking ship wasn't close enough. Try typing in some of these names as welll as the word engagement its almost impossible to start an attack!

This engagement rule is not RP! In the original Freelancer game you will never find a notice of engagement, that because it's a true RP game.

This is like the 3rd thread with the EXACT same discussion. Rule 6.19 applies ONLY to pirates vs traders ... rule 6.21 applies ONLY to PVP events.

The difference is this ...

Piracy = combat vessel (fighters, bombers, gunboats) vs non-combat vessel (freighters and transports)

PVP = combat vessel vs combat vessel (BOTH are in fighters, bombers, gunboats, capships)

Now ... as I've said before ... if you wanna make piracy a PVP event, then the 4 hour rules would also apply to the trader (freighters and transports). Don't see anyone complaining about traders NOT following the 4 hour rules. So ... what's it gonna be? We gonna treat piracy as role play or PVP? Cause it cannot be both. If we call it a PVP event, then I'd expect to see a few sanctions for traders returning to their trade routes (through systems they've been destroyed in). Can't have it both ways gents. If pirates were required to follow 6.21 for piracy ... guess what ... traders gotta do the same with the 4 hour rules. In other words ... you (trader) get killed in the system that pays you the most for your cargo ... you gotta stay outa that system for 4 hours once you're destroyed.

What's good for the goose is good for the gander ya know.
