To kindly be honest, I don't really see the difference between now and before. I run away from Penn like plague, and there still are newbies who act no-so-very much in RP. Shouldn't there little more... tutorial system? One that links you to the forums, that explains you basic concepts, etc, etc?

I want to get off Mr. Igiss' wild ride.

Did the fall of the USSR bring a end to Communism?
Did defeating Hitler bring a end to Nazi racism?

Take note that once you've left Pensyllvania, whats the chances of you going back? Very unlikely, so don't worry about it. Newbies aren't a problem, we were all clueless at one point or another. If it's still too much of a problem for you, then you may want to start looking on ebay for patience.

Clueless or not, we still don't give them a lot of support, especially to former Vanilla players. Things are very different here now...

Take into account that some people don't want help. Have you ever tried to help every other person who joins discovery? Even ask an Angel, it's not easy. Sure it's fun to take someone under your wing every now and again to lend a helping hand. But sadly not everyones just passing through Pensyllvania or New York. This is all put aside the fact that we as experienced players can't tell whos new and whos just creating a new character.

Well, no matter where you put them, they'll still start as newbies. You can't change that. There are plenty tutorials and whatnot on the forums, and the 'Welcome to Discovery' commodity does link them to them. There is also the Rule commodity, which explains briefly what the server is all about. Not to mention the various console messages, that remind them of the rules and all.

If you want to filter the utter clueless players (and by that I mean those who cannot properly communicate in English), you must password the server, and guide them to the forums. Hell, on some RP communities, you had to take a basic RP/rule test in order to gain access to the game. I'm confident Cannon could develop something like that, if he wants to.

People might say this could drop the server base, but hey, aren't these guys whining all day about lolcaps and crap ? You know who I'm talking about... not gonna get into it.

Limiting the server will just kill it. We were all noobs once so have a little patience.

An I love the LOLcaps, target practice.

I'm down with that, I've helped plenty new players in the past. I'm just annoyed at people making threads like 'z0mg what's the percentage of nubs in each house/faction' or 'i'm tired of this, i'm tired of that'. When the factions were attributed the power to outlaw lolcaps, they whined as well. Make up your mind people!

I have to say what doesnt help is the number of players who 'insult' the new players. I have seen it on numerous occasions in Liberty, Gamma etc. The usual 'noobs' or 'sort out your id or rep you noob' or 'lol' at the noob all in system chat. Generally it would appear these are some of the older players(only presuming due to thier higher level) but if the more experienced players go OORP to call the new player it doesnt send out the right messages.

Lets face it we were all new once, even those of us who have been freelancing for 6 or 7 years. Some of the newer players might well be picking up freelancer again for the first time in years. I for one hadnt played for over a year when I stumbled across discovery and thought I would take a look.

Thankfully on my first 'log in' i immediately got a feel for the roleplay due to the interaction with not only myself but by watching system chat etc. Maybe I got lucky, but some of the newer players will see numerous OORP comments etc and presume RP is not as serious as the rules, forums suggest

Anyway, my two cents

Cheers
