Since I posted my idea about making battleships in the topic for making their price lower and no one seemed to actually read it, I'm reposting it here so that I can know what pp think about it. So please, take the time to read all of it if you are going to post in this topic. Else just don't.
So this topic is about making Battleship more than only the bigger ship in the game but something really rare that you actually earn by involving in the game and becoming somewhat of an important player in the Sirius sector.
As in, for liberty, the few (not more than 3 at a time) players who would be able to earn a battleship wold be considered ans commander of the fleets or something similar as this.
I know some players will go like "huuh I want a battleship too.. that friggin sucks!" but well .. you can still get those gunboats, etc that aren't so bad at all and not so far from those battleships... and if you really want that battleship, participate to those events and take your chance. That'd be simple.
The way players would be able to aquire a battleship would be in more or less rare events made my admins who are willing to make them. For each of those events, a player who deserves it because he was a good asset in the rp event would be granted a battleship, commander of his faction fleet, etc. I think you get the idea.
And then, they could probably simply remove battleships from the market and make it so that they can only be earned this way (but the guns, armor, any equipment except licenses would still be sold). No more "NOOBZOR battleship OWNXOR" everywhere like yo guys like to call them.
And while were at it, those overpowered special guns and missile and whatever used by fighter that make them able to destroy a battleship while they're only three should be removed from the game. I think they unbalance the game and provide those not so RP players with super weapons that are in my opinion too strong. Then maybe battleships would be a bit more worth it to be owned as the bombers wouldn't have so many crazy guns that blows up everything on their path without necessarily making the battleships invincible. But it wouldn't matter if they were strong since there would only be a few on the server. Therefore making them even more epic than they are already instead of becoming lame and common while it should be the opposite.
That's my idea huh.. What do you think about it?
Maybe the idea can be improved some more if people are interested.
by that logic, we can also restrict bombers, VHF, military fighters, gunboats etc.
that way - EVERYONE can fly a civilian fighter - except those that are approved by "some" people / group to be epical enough to fly something better.
we all know that battleships are artificially weak - but i rather have them weak and available for everyone that wants to try it than epically awesome and only in the hands of a few favoured ones.
what you ask for is basicly the idea of "raids" and "raid loot" that is usual practice in large mmorpgs - where only large clans and guilds can get really high level loot. - i have been in such a guild in everquest - and it was more and more "work" and less and less "fun" - and a good reason i am NOT playing everquest anymore - but discovery freelancer.
So I wouldn't be able to buy a battleship, jam it in a dry dock and RP retrofitting it or go and sit in one place guarding it and only shooting hostiles that feel the need to approach it?
Quote:by that logic, we can also restrict bombers, VHF, military fighters, gunboats etc.
That's not what I've said. but battleship shouldn't be flying around everywhere for no reason. Maybe the numbers of battleships per houses could be higher than what I have said. But wouldn't it be more interesting than only players flying around with their battleships, nowhere guys who got them out of nowhere? As if it was normal for anyone to own a BATTLESHIP!
It's kinda like every alien had their own mothership! That wouldn't make sense! ;D There's ony a few motherships!
And I don't think they would be in the hand of some favored ones. They would be in the hands of players who EARNED it. And who are worthy of owning one.
And to make things more fair for players, Maybe a player could only own a battleship for a period of time (it can be long or shorter idk.. depends on what players wold want it to be) so that other players could have a try at it too.
Oh and "Johann Brunhild" .. would you please like to make a little more constructive post? I'm not sure what you are trying to say.
Its simple, if you put the time in to earn the credits for a battleship, then you can do it. I did, I spent roughly 3 days on my Junker gathering 350million up, thats right it only took me three days to get 350million just mining scrap and some trade routing. Is three days too much to ask? (Roughly I spent 28 hours gathering the money and I still have 40mil left over to fund another ship).

What I meant was I was worried that I wouldn't be able to RP like one of the stationary battleships in the game, just kinda operating in the background but avoiding the spotlight directly.
I can understand that Battleship should be rare, flagships, home defence of sorts, and not just some lol-ships or randoms. But to my knowledge, people HAVE worked long and hard to acquire one and with great RP outside of factions.
This is a game, not a military.
I would love to see the lol-caps reduced, but what can we do that doesn't hinder roleplay too much?
' Wrote:what does that have to do with what I've said?:(
Isn't that just proving how it is riduculously easy to get a battleship and to have them flying around everywhere like they were cheap fighters?
Indeed, nothing.
But, don't you think restricting Battleships to a lucky few is a bit elitarian? I mean, who's to judge who's allowed to fly one? The admins? Guess not, they're quite busy, and still slightly biased, subconciously maybe, but still. I call it human nature.
We already have enough complainers about the fact some id's and ships are restricted (can't blame them, but neither can I blame said factions), let's not restrict an entire ship class to the so called "veteran players with awesome roleplay".
The rules should be built around the players, not the players around the rules.
If a person spent a lot of time trading and working for a battleship, then left him have it. With the battleship license and everything it's already kind a hard. I'm far from the type of person who would spend 9 hours each day trading for a battleship. I'd spend two hours max if I'm really bored.
