The piracy within New York is starting to get a bit ridiculous, as it stands that I can almost always find a disrupted trade lane every other minute. To be honest, though, it's not EVERY pirate who's flying around in a GB/BS and asking for 5 million credits in broken english (no offense to the international playerbase). Established pirate factions in Liberty, like the XA, LR, and LH have a sense of what is and isn't reasonable to use in Liberty space (at least in my experience in being stopped by them).

Now, at the risk of opening another pandora's box, I will say this: 75%, if not more, of the GB/BS pirates in Liberty are indies. And, unfortunately, the LNS/LPI/LSF players cannot be online every hour, on the hour. In situations like this, I just hire someone from the BHG to do some community service. But regardless, Wuselkobold raised an excellent point about the frequency of NPC patrols; if they can be tweaked to be more frequent during high player concentrations within home systems, it may help in curbing some rampant capship swarming. The only foreseeable downside to this is that things may get even more hectic for the legitimate Liberty pirate factions.

cant we put turrets of all kinds near this bases? to stop base camping, players doing some RP chat could stand near the turrets and do their chat too without expecting a rogue GB to come down blowing hell asking for money the oorpy way.

And there you have it. Don't rely on lawfuls to be there for you 24/7. Get escorts. I'm sure there's plenty of folks willing to pew-pew and get paid for doing it.

YOu do know it is sanctionable to pirate in a cruiser? or kill a Trader with one? And a bomber is a MUCH bigger threat. Its Like a Bazooka, or anti tank gun. To use you analogy, the antitank gun would easily blow the tank, as well as detonate convoies and such. A Tank Is actually easier to blow if you have the right equipment.

You could argue that a Gunboat is a warship, but then so is a heavily armed bomber with SNAC.

And there we are. Why should anyone use a Gunboat for Piracy if there are Cops with anti-tank weapons around?
That is exactely what i was talking about - as you might have noticed, i was referring to pirates using Gunboats in House Systems and Pirates camping Police Stations. I didn't say anything about "ah there are to much Pirates" or something.

Well, you could say a Bomber is a far larger threat than the GB's (Especially the Rogue Gunboat), but I find, as a small-time indy pirate, when I have a GB helping me, Traders pay a lot more than if I had, say, a bomber with me.
The psychological effect it has on less in-the-know traders is startling.

This is rather unrelated however, and to stay on topic,

I agree with the OP, Gunboats are a tad OORP to be in house systems.

I think its somewhat incorrect to compare the FL universe to todays world. The diference is quite big , making your analogy not really accurate. A more suitable one would be ... letsee

A huge , hyperspeed highway linking all major cities in the world. You can easilly cut the highway, making people get stuck in the middle of nowhere.

I think the main problem isnt exactly people using Gunboats for piracy, its the way they use em. Alot of the lolwutters out there just sit a few Ks outside a MAIN PLANET, pirating people. Now that , would be like sitting outside a huge fortress , killing everyone on sight.

Also , a Gunboat aint exactly "a ship of war", at least , not in my eyes. Warships are cruisers and above imo.

But yea , some pirates need to learn a lesson in "you would be dead in 5 seconds , you know that right?".

Gunboats are certainly Warships, most Capital Patrols have them. Rheinland Infocards would suggest they were massively produced for the war with Liberty, however, as most people above me have stated, its far more efficient to pirate in a Bomber, Pirate Transport (Or best of all, a combination of the two). There really is no suitable way to stop it, but it is rather an annoying little nuisance.
