No, dont raise the Server Limit. New York is already spammy enough. No really. f you get twice the people on the server you get twice the messages in the system chat. And dont even think about server lags and fps lags.
Not everyone has a super machine playing Crysis on High Graphics.

Freelancer and FLserver are not open source. The source code has not been released. They cannot be reprogrammed, they would have to be reverse engineered. This would require it's own development team and a whole lot of time. If you want to try to assemble a team to do it, feel free.

Yup.

I've considered rewriting FLServer. From the reverse engineering work I've done so far I think the rewrite would be around 100,000 lines of code. Assuming I could do about 100 lines of production code per day (and this would be incredibly productive...very few programmers could maintain this rate) in about 3 years we'd be able to expand the server.

It'd be nice to expand the capacity of the server but it's not going to happen anytime soon. There are other servers and other mods to play on. Try them. I play on a number of discovery and non-discovery servers. Some are pretty fun places.

EDIT: I do intend to try and split the server into two so that we can have less lag. This seems to be practical.
