What I've also seen happen is people trying to connect (in rp) all their characters.
My friend who used to play freelancer, had an Order character who was bretonian in rp, who got married to a corsair woman, who's uncle (or some relative) was a gaian and idk. It made sence but it's confusing too.
Although I do have to say, if someone leads a faction, then they should really focus on that one faction. Similar to that weird (only 2 system owning factions allowed), I think leaders should also be limited so that they work on improving and the over-all welfare of their faction.
Probably rude to those few players so it might be a bad idea, but for the stability of player factions it may be something rather necessary.
I have an RP like the one you described. My flag trader, Benjamin Epstein, is the great-uncle and grandfather of not one but two ex-commanders of the 101st; half-Maltese, he ran a lucrative Cardamine-smuggling operation for 45 years and donated most of the profits back to the Maltese military, which he also flew with for a short period of time in his youth. Now he has bought his retirement ship - the former OSC Flagship, a custom Royal Liner, which was repossessed and put up for auction because the tourism market tanked and OSC couldn't pay its bills. Chaos ensues. He now runs (mostly) legitimate (mostly) human cargo after 50 years of dedicated service - and he expects not to be bloody pirated, particularly since most of his profits are still donated (both in-RP and out) to the Maltese military. Any Outcast who hits him up gets a talking to. Any Outcast who persists gets a much sterner talking to, possibly involving event horizons.
And you're telling me there's something wrong with that, that two years of RP right there? If a player expects to not to be pirated because they lead a faction that's crap, but if a character expects not to be pirated because of who he (the character) is then people ought to respect that RP if it pertains to them.
ok, so you expect not to be pirated by outcasts and maybe even their allies because of your tied relations over the past decades, that is perfectly fine with that rp story in the background but on the other hand you should accept that someone who has enough money to buy a royal liner for his retirement occupation and still funds the maltese navy would be a priority target for anyone who dislikes the outcasts and yet you started a thread complaining about the fact that people gank your liner too much.

Yes. I did.
Do you know why?
[color=#ff0000]BECAUSE I WAS BEING PIRATED OR STALKED SO BLEEDING OFTEN THAT I WAS MAKING SLIGHTLY MORE THAN I WOULD HAVE IN A GULL.
It stops being fun when you become such a huge target for harassment that you don't make any money and spend most of your time not taking tradelanes. Let me reiterate - THE TRADER HAS TO MAKE MONEY. I was not making any money, and I was being stalked by people who basically got off on shooting the big liner (whose defenses, let me tell you, are horribly overrated. Strafe=0) for fun. Oh, yes, and then there are the cargo pirates and the goddamn Junker Salvagers. Excuse me, hos, but I am not actually rich and I do get sick of being beat up and abused by every two-bit pirate with a pair of Gunboats or a Barghest.

Welcome to what happens to everyone else eppy. Being pirated and blown up is part of the course of being a trader.
With your outcast-don't-pirate-me bit, you're actually better off than the vast majority of us. For example, I've had more than a few runs where I've come out of it with a loss of 10 or so million. That's the cargo, and paying off the hordes of pirates, and then losing the cargo to yet another pirate. These days, trade lanes are for pirates, not traders. Deal with it.
Edit: Ontopic: Not experienced this corruption(?) first hand, but I know it is indeed there. Sad but true.

Excuse me, but are you seriously that gutless? This game is about having fun, not being royally buttraped. TRADERS EXIST TO MAKE MONEY. I AM NOT HAVING FUN IF I AM NOT MAKING MONEY. I don't mind paying a few pirates, but two or three a run (or tripling my run time by avoiding lanes) is not enjoyable. Fair Play applies to traders, too, if I have to respect it for the bomber whores. If I start losing huge amounts of money when I'm obviously trading for a reason, then it's the pirate's fault, not mine. Simply put, excessive piracy is griefing, and I don't like griefers.

Hmmm.....How is anyone who does not know your character suppose to know all of your RP background for him? Does everyone on this forum read ALL of EVERYONE elses character biography and know it by heart?
I do not think so. And if they do, well, good for them. Pirating is part of the community and Sirius. You do not want to be pirated, take jh's or an escort, because if you travel alone we all know that you are taking the risk of being pirated.

Start smuggling depending on your route pirates barely bother you and the police can be somewhat predicted.

welcome to the club: dont tell me about liner defenses and piracy against it, i have been rp trading on my spa and cruise liner for about 200 hours, back in 4.84 the run didnt make that much of a profit me either. in sigma 13 were corsairs or outcasts or dragons, in edinburgh sometimes there was a gaian although not very often, in the omegas there were corsairs, in cali there were rogues and in magellan there was phate, although he was the nicest of the bunch and let me off easy after a while. the route itself made about 20 million but i paid around 9 million tax, that made for about 11 million trade income for a flight of 90 minutes. . and then there are the groups of 3 random pirates together who ask as a group for 3 million each and then blow you away. so dont think i dont know how you feel. and still i had fun flying my liner through there and actually got a fe ingame kudos for the rp on the liner what made me happy and enjoy the flight nevertheless. if you dont have fun with your rp anymore, perhaps you should think about changing your rp instead of asking everyone else to change their rp.

Do you think the people that attempt to pirate you (or those that accidentally hit your liner because they are shooting NPCs attacking them) and then you insta-log, grab your 101st character and start threatening them immediately have fun with that? You're ruining other people's fun for your own benefit, and that is the definition of powergaming. Using OORP facts and using your characters in an OORP manner to protect others of your characters.
Maybe now you'll realize my opinions on that whole issue isn't the sole one here.
