you don t need to give such creatures godlike powers like "deathbeams" - to create a good experience, you can simply make them invincible ( so they re not shot down by a triggerhappy jerk ) - and have them float slowly through space. ( no weapons )

for that - and to make it more believable when they appear and vanish, you can give them the "cloaks". - they should be "sightings" not enemies.

not everything in disco needs to be shot at. - what we need is landmarks , things to discover... we already have enough things we can destroy as it is.

So, are we to expect some space monsters flying around? I really really hope so! Would make for a good role play stories, in the best spirits of Star Trek:)

I quite like this idea, although if the game sees them as npcs, they'll just disappear when the server is almost full. However, space monsters flying around would be interesting

Having a crasy doctor with a researcher ID in a Yacht, I got to say this does sound interesting. It would certainly open up more avenues of RP and profit. If it could be done without too much effort, of course...

I can imagine it now. Little Jellyfish swimming through space, then you ram them and they go spinning away. It'd be awesome, but I think tiny NPCs may work better.

But yes this could be a interesting thing.....not sure it fits in but seeing a hugh jelly fish coming at me would make me think...hell that thing is paper thin muahhahaha i'll take it out with my guns *pew pew pew* eh? it didn't do anything RUN!!!

But on another note....space hunting? finally having a cure for cretes starving children?

Thinking about it, organisms really shouldnt be minable. The heat would surely destroy them. Why not have random loot of alien organisms planted throughout the nomad worlds. Less dense in worlds like Minor, but flourishing in worlds like Major and Iota.

Not entirely sure this is doable without it taking up alot of server memory.

they can be shot, that was part of my suggested point. They also would have a stinger-like effect at 10m with 1000 damage.

when they can be shot and fire back - they will be engaged in jousting - which makes such a creature a bit less convincable.

ok, there are some sci-fi shows that feature space creatures that dogfight with fighters - but somehow such a behaviour should be "beneath" such a lifeform ( from my pov )

i d rather give them a powerful radiation ( if thats possible ) - so that ships that come too close simply die to radiation. ( thats also beneficial cause you only need to apply a low res texture then - when no one can come too close:P)


but i wouldn t like it much when there was a huge majestic squid like creature - ... engaged in a fierce and probably 2 hours long dogfight against a liberator.
