Hawkwings: The 4 on the little stub wings are the gun/missile hard points. The one on the belly is for a CD. I guess I have too many on the back since I only need three: Mine, Thruster, CM. Unless... does the played ID/tractor beam have to mount on the outside? I saw a thread about HPs, I'll go look it up.
Nighthawk: Yep, some prior experience. It's always been a hobby and sometimes been a job;)
RED = Gun/Missile ORANGE = Turret YELLOW = Cruise Disruptor GREEN = Thruster BLUE = Countermeasure PURPLE = Mine
As some of you may know the Touketsu currently only has 3 guns and 2 turrets. Because of the way this model is built it seemed better with 4 guns. What do you think? Should come up with a new arrangement to keep the gun count to 3?
Thanks Gloucester! Well, probably the best way to learn is with tutorials. If you're serious about learning 3D I'd also recommend this website: http://forums.cgsociety.org which has an amazing community of digital artists who are very helpful. Search around for 3DS MAX and GMAX tutorials, you'll probably find more for 3DS MAX and I'm pretty sure that all the basics are the same in both programs. The most important thing I'd say is to take your time;)I look forward to seeing what you come up with!!:)
Those wings look Rheinland-inspired, especially the forward and down-slanting ones on the heavier fighter, they look like the ones on the banshee/phantom. Not that it's a bad thing, just thought you might want to notice.
Anyways, that's some amazing work! I really hope they make it in.
excellent designs indeed - inspiring. - about the loadouts. - hard to say - but i d try to keep the loadout they got now - so 3 guns 2 turrets.
hitboxing might be a bit troublesome aswell as figuring out a good size for them. - when they re as large as the current "homeworld" ships - they d have quite a huge glass canopy ( which isn t really such a problem, but the pilot might look a bit lost in there - especially when you re not modelling "interior" stuff - which vanilla fighters usually don t have )
if the cockpit is as small as it might suggest - the ships are quite tiny ( patriot size sort of and not very much larger )
but those are just minor problems after all. - the ships appear to "build" up on one another well - a real line of ships..... well.. time to slap a skin over them, i guess.
Okay, the VHF model is sweet. As is the new light fighter model.
I still don't really like the general cockpit design. The rounded shape and horizontal slats look a bit odd. I'd personally go for something a little more enclosed, as you wouldn't need all that glass. Infact, it would pose a hazard when dealing with collision safety.
