In this question, I ask what would happen if we gave trading ships, ranging from the Transport, to the Adv. Train, NOT LINERS their own missile turret hardpoint? But could only mount ONE of them.
I ask this because if pirates have a CD and a SNAC, traders are more than likely done for.
Hypothesise people!
EDIT:
Thanks to Jinx's mind of grammerless'ness and out of ze box'ness, a flak turret will now replace the missile turret in this hypothetical scenario.
As long as they are not nearly as powerful as Gunboat missles, i think its a good idea, it would give Transports at least some defence vs. Bombers.
With a missle mount, flying in Convoys would make sence over night. A single Train, even with an escort fighter, has no survival chance vs. a bomber, neither have 3 or 4 Trains flying together. But if all could mount one, small missle turret, a lone Bomber would die to them.
And if there are more than one pirates, the transports at least have a fighting chance.
Some Trains might get trough.
i d rather like to see transport versions of the flak, which is a pure defense weapon. - of course ten times lower damage than the battleship version - and mainly used to actually create a flak screen against CDs ( sort of like an active point defense system instead of only the passive CM )
missiles are damn hard to balance. - look at the recent threads about missiles. - complaints until we nerft them for fighters, complaints until we nerft them for gunboats etc.
they carry the stigma of a "no skill" weapon that makes the ace-pilots life hard. ( and an ace doesn t like it much to have a hard life - done by a "no-skill" weapon )
I like it...not on the whale though since its vulnerability is something I cherish...I guess that is getting a replace in the next version anyhow *sobs*.
