That's not really an issue, heavy caps (Cruisers and up) should be used against other caps and against swarms of enemies. Their main role should be to deter enemies from attacking allies instead of going in themselves. A cap is perfectly within rp and fairness when it attacks enemies in range who attacked a friend, which should make an enemy think twice.
I've said my bit in various other threads about this.
Summary.
I do think we have a tendancy to mistake "fairplay" with "goodsportsmanship".
And it's not something that should be made into a rule.
Real life, is not fair. Space sims, are not fair. Certain legit tactics, are not "fair".
You can respect your enemies, but if I'm in a fight, I'm in it to win.
I do not support "Fairplay" as is currently bantered around these forums.
Good sportsmanship is another thing entirely, and should be done. Gentlemen's agreements and such.
Basing a fight on "numbers" is not a good way to introduce "good sportsmenship" I believe.
I DO support "Good sportsmanship".
But again, No-one can or should be able to force "fairplay" on other people.
It just does not fit in some situations.

So its another suggestion to secrafice fun gamplay to make the game more "Realistic" or more "RPish"
Is nothing fun about be ganked by whole fleet nd try to justify it calling it a "tactic". Or Roleplay.
This is a game in the first place, not the best space simulator competition. All are here to have fun. And .. reality damn it, isnt that much fun as an arcade.
if its serious RP, - bringing overwhelming force is good... cause if its a decision of life and death, you d rather choose life, and anything that improves your chances.
if its pvp though - you bring a fair force to make it more competitive.
in a real war, you do not want to be sportive or "give them a chance" - you will do ANYTHING to cheat, to gain advantages, - you play dirty - and in extreme cases, you even ignore ethnics and morality in order to win.- you make weapons that are better than your enemies, you strike when he least expects and with as much force that your caualties are minimized.
if war was like pvp. - the USA would have invaded iraq with only a handful troops and 1960-80 equipment.
so the question is - are we serious RP? or serious pvp or something in between. - cause real RP ( and in that case - real war ) is no fun. its aim is to utterly defeat the other side.
real RP might also be to launch a huge missile on planet manhattan that travels into the badlands and just pulverized everything within giving no inhabitant inside the badlands even a chance to defend ( in the very case when the rogues got too dangerous for the navy for example )
I too think that sometimes RP has to be...bent a bit so that everybody can enjoy the game. Sure, if you come to Manhattan in your GB, no mercy shall be given to you, but overkilling some little Xeno eagle with 2 GBs and 4 fighters is an entirely different thing. It may be in RP, but just consider how you'd feel if YOU were said Xeno.
I prefer evenly-balanced fights, although giving one of the two fighting factions a little advantage is OK with me aswell. Just don't overkill. 2 VHFs/Bombers vs 1 VHF/Bomber is fine, 3 are...hm, but 4 are just disgusting. Kudos to the 4 HF guys who had the courtesy of fighting me one-at-a-time when they met and surrounded me on my Navy Guard VHF a few months ago.
Yes, this is an RP server, but we're all here to have fun in making that RP. If we were to be realistic with our RP, then people would very quickly get sick of it because it would be no fun.
That's the thing here. This is a game we play for fun. The three key words are game, play and fun. Whatever we may think about realism, we're not here for realism at the end of the day. Anyone who claims to be is lying to themselves and everyone else.
Whatever we do here should be done with some consideration towards the players we interact with. Without that we might just as well pack up and go find something else to do.
