[color=#CC0000]REWARD: 30 MILLION SIRIUS CREDITS TO THE PERSON WITH THE WINNING SUGGESTION!

Right. Ever since I got my new laptop (month or two ago) I haven't been able to play FL.

#1. I have Windows Vista 64 bit. Going to upgrade to 7 soon.

It is NOT Vista's fault. It is #2's fault, from what I can tell.

#2. I run Defender Pro AntiVirus 15-in-1.

Don't lecture me about which antivirus/firewalls are good and bad. I know this one works perfectly fine. Does everything it needs to, keeps me running perfectly.

But somehow, the firewall will not let FL through, no matter how I try to allow it. I CAN SEE all servers. I CANNOT connect to any. I get an immediate "cannot connect" message. I can play online on other games, just not Freelancer. If the firewall is installed, FL won't work. If it isn't, FL runs like a charm, but I'm unprotected.

My dad bought this antivirus for my grandma and myself to use. (He doesn't like the free ones.) He'd be disappointed if I didn't use it, because he payed for it (mostly for me to use) and it works fine. I doubt he'd like me uninstalling his cash for a game.

So, is there ANY way that I can connect to Freelancer without uninstalling my antivirus? I'm open to any suggestion, I've already tried too many of my own with failure.

Pllleeease.. somebody has to know a way...

(I did try uninstalling the firewall, reinstalling FL and then installing the firewall again. didn't work.)

Try adding DSupdate.exe and Freelancer.exe to its safe files or something like that

You might try completely deactivating it. By which I mean end any related process in the task manager, and stopping related processes in the Services list in the Control Panel.

After all, if it isn't running at all, you shouldn't have a problem.

EDIT: You HAVE tried adding the server's port to the exception list in your firewall, right? That and the typical DirectX Game ports? I think they are like 2303 and 2304? Or maybe 2302 and 2303? Hell I can't remember, just try adding 2300 through 2304.

EDIT's EDIT: Yea its 2302 and 2303 usually.

While being quite funny, your sig was the biggest one i've ever seen so far. No more than 700x250 please. ~utrack

Had the same problem on my new pc as well. (Which is -still- in the shops for repairs DX) And was quite reluctant to swap antivirus'. Though, try Avira. It's free and seemed to work quite well. It's either that or no Freelancer.

I have 64 bit Vista Home Premium, Firewall up, Norton Antivirus running, no ports open, and FL runs perfectly for me.

When I activated the mod, I ran FLMM in XP SP2 "Compatibility Mode", and the mod installed ferpectly and I can now play ferpectly. Have you tried the running in "Compatibility Mode"?

Ximen, try the Forum for that particular program.

It's a pretty good guess that someone there will have had a similar problem at some point and (hopefully) will know a way around it.

If all else fails, sit down and have a good solid look through the help files for it. It can't hurt and it might actually help.

ALRIGHT! There is a 30 million reward for the idea that makes this work WITHOUT making me uninstall my current firewall/antivirus.

I will try (almost) ANY suggestion that is given.

Done. Still nothing.

From what I can see, "All Ports" are allowed for Freelancer. I'm not sure how to open specific ports for things like DirectX. I've been looking around, but I'll look some more.

Hmm... let me try everything else before I resort to anything else.

I have. It doesn't do anything.

I got on with their help chat. They told me to run in "gamemode" which I've been doing this whole time with no success. After i told them that, they never responded. I haven't had a ton of time to look through help files, but I will soon. If I find something in help files, you win the 30 mill reward.:)

If you have MSN messenger, and are willng to send me an add, and a techsupport screen sharing request via MSN, I'll guarantee I'll get you up and running. If I can't I'll pay you 30 mill instead.

Hmm, if you can see the server list, FL must be connecting to the global server.

Also, it might not be the firewall itself blocking you, with 15 different process running, it could be one of the other 14, for example, an IP blocker which means you'd need to manually add the server IP address to one of those Defender features.

Also check that Freelancer isn't being blocked by the OS firewall, and/or that it's turned off as this causes conflicts if both are running.

Despite Defender's efficiency, it's more designed for corporate use than home users, the one thing they don't tell you.

If you use a router, be sure that it's allowing game mode, that too can cause certain servers to not be allowed automatically.

Most software designed to secure a PC allows for turning off individual features, try each in turn, that might help, by doing so your PC should still be safe while you experiment.

Ps, There is such a thing as too many features isn't good for the PC, or the user.
