We all know about the race gates in Dublin. The problem is that they almost never get used. This is a suggestion that will hopefully remedy that, but also expand space racing a ton. The first step would be to make a dedicated racing ship, one that has no guns or CD, but also travels at a much greater speed than all of the other ships. The second step would be to make an incentive. Maybe some races against NPC's like the one against Dexter Hovis in the form of racing missions. Another thing would be to make a dedicated racing system named something like Chicagoland or Talledaga. Then have different ships sponsored by the different companies of Sirius. Then have big player races with a prize at the end. It would be awesome to see racing in Discovery, and it would be great for players that don't like blowing up NPCs all day and powertrading. It would be pretty exciting to be in, and watch, for I am sure that players would bet on the racers. I would really like your guys' input, and constructive criticism.

If I have time tonight I'll work up a ship concept.

At one point in time on a server I used to play on (I think it was here actually) One of the Admins would do something along that line as a 'spur of the moment' thing.

They would say, I want this/these item/s (said item/s only being available in a few places) and then people would rush off to get it and the first person back would get a 'prize', normally credits or a 'rare' peice of equipment.

Virtually anything was fair game in the race, blowing up your competitor and tractoring the item/s in question and anything else that could be thought of to slow them down.

A possibly very ordinary signature coming soon.

I like the idea of racing, I think this has been discussed before, and someone posted a thread about illegal racers a earlier, I would like to compete, and this would open possibilities to new original RP in discovery not only trading and pewpewing

The main feature of the racing ship would be that it's impulse speed would be max cruise speed (420). That would make races super fast and thrilling. It would only have enough cargo space for the ID, and it would also need a special ID, the Racer ID.

Impulse of 420?

Epic abuse much? Even if theres no cargo or guns, people would send them ahead as scouts so they would know where there enemy was, or just fly around people annoying them. Like how the Camera Ship used to be.

The camera ship is still that way =P

An impulse of 410 or so with no cruise ability and no thruster might work, but I'd probably give it normal impulse speed and two or three thruster mounts - multiple thrusters multiply the speed increase, so with 3 or so you get up to cruise speed. Thing is, it drains your thruster energy extremely fast when you have that many, so it's like having to time your NOS in a street race. Thrusters also cant be used at the same time as cruise, so it doesnt imbalance the addition of cruise to the ship - it just lets you have a ship that can go really fast without having to charge cruise engines, but cant keep up that speed for very long.

Anyways, I've got about half of the first racer model finished. The idea I'm going on is kinda like the podracers from starwars - all engine, nothing else. Basically the model I'm making is a tiny little cockpit strapped to the biggest engines the pilot could find, and I'm putting a lot of little mechanical bits in there to give it the feel of a muscle-car-ish engine.
