Come on, RP with the Privateers in-game, or go play Pac Man.

You are correct and those folks get punished. Surprisingly a lot of pirates do not violate the NFZ.

I never said we would not RP with the QCP. I just said that the RP they are using is weak and mainly seems like an excuse to attack zoners. You want to attack the Corsairs...then attack them. But you all came headlong in past them and started invading a zoner system to kill zoners.

I do also agree that this could have been handled without the Admins stepping in.

Before the flames and such burn any higher (again), I will say that the discussion of possible diplomacy has begun, tentatively. But Blunt isn't awake yet, so it's on hold at the moment.

I don't know a whole lot about this conflict, so I'll ask this.

What's wrong with a bunch of pirates blowing the crap out of traders for money?

It was zoners?

Since when are Zoners entitled to special treatment? They only are left alone by most pirates because they are of use to them, and mostly by House factions because they aren't worth combating and don't really pose any treat to them anyways. The QCP do not rely on the Zoners - thus they are fair game to them if they wish to kill them (within the server rules of course).

This whole situation makes me very sad.

I have read the whole thread, and as I understand it, the situation is quite upsetting.

OORP problems have to be solved in an OORP fashion often times, as sad as it is.
But in-RP legitimate 'problems' that are part of the RP-story of the game as created by the players?
I hate to see any RP situation resolved in an OORP manner.

I will not fling accusations as I am not involved and likely still don't know the whole story, but I will say that it only takes simple logic to see that someone, or someone(s) on one or both sides, somehow acted with extreme immaturity and very bad form in pulling a perfectly justified in-RP situation into the out-of-RP world.

That makes me very sad indeed and its a rather shameful thing to happen on a server that prides itself, among other laudable qualities, on its role play focus.

There is overall nothing wrong with this picture. It was a combination of QCP, plus two other bounties being placed on all Zoners that made people raise their eyebrows. The Zoner player base is one of the largest (if not the largest) factions on the server and they're quite a diverse group. When such hostilities were placed on every single Zoner, even those that have absolutely nothing to do with the conflict at hand, many players got upset. But not even because of the hostilities but because such an open war was declared by a number of individuals without really informing the faction out-of-character.

However, all of that is in the past and as Drake said, we'll be trying to smooth things out (if this is possible) in roleplay.

So is all that we need is a 'no blanket bounties' rule? Since it creates an opportunity for indiscriminate killing?

Blanket bounties seem somewhat pointless to me, they are more or less a way of declaring war.

I can see them being useful for lawfuls against pirates. IE, people who hand the LPI the shredded bulkhead of a notorious pirate's ship should get rewarded for that.

But just suddenly placing a 'blanket bounty' on the Zoners seems a little silly.
The QCP declaring 'war' on them I can see happening, its one political/military entity refusing to acknowledge the neutrality of another. I can't see someone just saying "I personally dislike Zoners, so Ill pay anyone who can bring me their heads."

Theres two kinds of grievances in Freelancer;
1; personal between characters, which is often what bounties are for...
2; war/animosity between factions.

A quick addendum, for those going on about direct enemies, such as KNF and Corsairs.

QCP don't fight directly. We target supply lines. Stop the enemy from existing and you don't have to fight him.
