Small correction Yngen, Xenos ID does have a tractor, my whole faction uses it.

I'm not worried about them banding together and using it, but I am worried about only old/vet. players being given it. I think that any faction/group that is dictated by who the admins think should be doing it is doomed to failure, bucause its unfair to everyone who isn't chosen. Although they may not deserve it, most people tend to overestemate themselves and their RP worthiness. I don't particularily support the idea, but we'll probably end up going in circles around it if I keep responding to it. So, last post on the idea of an Admin-chosen Nomad faction.

I quoted the Xeno ID description straight from the updated rules Igiss published last month, if yours have tractor beams then there's an error somewhere

No one arround here seems to trust the admins, hehe (why is that?) When I think about this more, I believe old/vet players are precisely who we need playing these roles. I will qualify this statement by saying that not all veteran players are 'old' or have been on the server for years and years. But some sort of minimum for the age of your forum and server accounts might be in order (3 months perhaps.) I'm thinking of people who have shown the most dedication to the well-being of the community and by virtue of sticking around the longest, have shown a motivated sense of RP. Nomads SHOULD be a cut above the rest of the server in all ways, and much should be demanded of their behaviors. Having good people playing nomads will have a galvanising influence on game play throughout the server. Where players normally fight very specific enemies in different areas, everyone would have to work together when nomads appear to defeat them, just as they did in the single player campaign. New people who aspire to play as Nomads would be more motivated to contribute in some positive way to the community so they would be more eligiable to be nomads.

The slagfest issue: I picture nomad groups as always being outnumbered. After the single player campaign, nomads were set back and disrupted. The nomads that would appear on the discover server would represent a remnant force left over from the war and there for show up in small numbers. It wouldn't matter what ID you use on your character, if nomads show up you might see arch enemies fighting along side each other to defeat them. And the nomad players would have to get used to fighting against superior numbers and bad odds, so they would have to be good pilots.

I'll put one more rebuttal to Koolmo's concerns before I drop it.

A sincere way to select nomad players:
1)Have a private application process that includes a quiz about FL story lines, detailed nomad information and other appropriate knowledge one would need to be an effective nomad. Have the applicant write a short essay on how they would make a good nomad.
2)Require an applicant have multiple references within the community who would vouch for their qualities.

Ways to prevent accusations of favoritism:
1)Require an applicant to conceal his or her identity by a)never chatting with anyone but other nomads or admins on the server while playing b)Keep a 10 minute buffer between F1 switching of characters. c)never discussing with anyone the identities of other nomad players.
2)Reserve admin authority to revoke Nomad IDs at any time for inappropriate play.

Yngen, there was a point when the Xeno terrorist ID did not have a tractor beam with it. It was found to be
just a touch impractical during any form of PC fighting, or NPC for that matter.
No chance to pick up botts and batts, when the opposition could. It was changed fairly quickly, so that
description is just an oversight.

OUch! This means to be a nomad you really have to do your school work lol! I do think that having the applicant write a short test would be a good Idea though...

Return to my progress in Single Player (I've stopped messing with the model stuff for the time being- I wonder if I can just submit the MS3D file to Igiss? Because I can't seem to get the models of the ships to work in FreeLancer from my CMP files- Unless the 'preview' in the shop is something that can be fixed easily enough. Please, somebody help).

Anyway... after messing around with Acolyte stuff, I ended up just continuing on with the plotline. I went to the Hood while I was flying a Taiidan Freighter. This was a big mistake, as I could not beat Hovis in the Taiidan "Seejur" Defender. Which is surprising, because the Defender is supposed to have the best turn radius of all ships in Homeworld. The thing about Defenders in Homeworld is that they're supposed to have superb turning and firepower for a fighter, but the worst speed ever, thus making it a sitting duck in comparison to other fighters. Seeing as how Speed is a constant in FreeLancer, I suppose the next best thing was to make it a Freighter and give it the best maneuvering of any freighter, but still not better than Light Fighters, due to it's mass (I was fine up until the last few rings of the race- maybe I could have done it with some smarter flying), but I said 'screw it' and grabbed the Cavalier. Yes, the ol' Bee-One's successor. The POS of Bretonian space. I was stuck with it all throughout Bretonain space as I went to Kusari. BECAUSE LEEDS DIDN'T HAVE ANY SHIPS IN MY LEVEL RANGE. Augh. Well, anyway, I survived to Cali Base, and into Kusari. I now have a Turanic 'Bandit' Fighter off the Battleship Myoko in Shikoku. Which is a very nice ship, I must admit. I always liked the Turanic Raiders.

I actually managed to kill a few Gunboats in Tau-29 with the paired sets of Adv. Rippers and Bluebells that were on it. Though I will admit most of the fight I was running for my life trying to keep from being hit by capship guns.

Are there tee-shirts that say 'I survived Tau-29 in a Bee-One!' ?

If I was able to get the Acolyte to work in-game, I would have used that. It has the LF maneuverability to make the race course, I suspect. And had Torpedoes to actually KO those capships with.

Anyway, I suspect I'll be flying the Bandit for the rest of the Storyline. Unless the Barracuda is actually a better choice, but I think I like my Bandit.

Currently: Remastering Kiith Somtaaw's Acolyte Fighter. These Homeworld ships need some Sirius work done on them. ^.-
