I don't pick my ship to fight in, I fight in whatever ship I happen to be in. Manta, Waran, Titan or Praetorian.
In regards to balancing the gameplay, skill is not a factor.
If he is as skilled as you and he has a considerably superior ship, you should lose more than you win.
The ships are the things to be balanced, not the skill levels. When one class of ship is so far infront of the others is when you have a problem.
For my money, the bomber needs to lose something. Probably hull and in some cases, a little agility. Either that or 50% of it's gun slots (not torps). Bombers should fear fighters, as caps should fear bombers.
And to Jake, Kudos to you for your pm. We seem to agree on something (more or less)!
That is true, Capital ships got nerfed in their point defenses, Solaris sucks, Flak is nice for team killing, and Battle Razors are win if you can hit the bomber with its shield down. Your better off with primaries.
Now what did the bomber give up during our tranistion?
I might be missing something here but with the range of BS turrets shouldn't it be difficult for a bomber to even get close enough to effectivly torp it?

Agility, I believe.
More recently, power regeneration.
Why should a ship class be expected to be nerfed because others were? Transports got adjusted as well. Some were buffed. Some of the smaller freighters were buffed as well. But Light Fighters weren't.

Most battleships can be hit by even an average gunner at 1-1.5k with a supernova. Nova torpedoes are even easier to hit with but are ineffective on larger battleships if the target's shields are up.
BS primaries may have 2-3k range, but they're also 700-1000m/s projectile speed. Most players can dodge that kind of fire at even 500 meters if they're strafing.
Right now there is only ONE decent point defense weapon for capships, and that's the battleship razor, which has a large projectile (easier to hit with) and 1800m/s projectile speed. Problem is, it's only available to battleships, takes a crapton of energy to fire, and has a slow refire rate. Solarises suck, flaks suck, primaries suck.

Whats funny, lunaphase, is that the BS solaris range was 990 before. The beta after my capital ship point defense topic it was buffed. Now its 1200 right? Yet they still do too little damage to be effective. They ought to be replaced with some new innovative point defense weapon like the razor.

Ah that makes sense. They might as well be trying to hit a LF. I did notice that the Supernova has a good projectile speed for a torp. I assumed the flak turrets would damage everything close to the BS?
' Wrote:Atheist, the main guns on a battleship move so slow that they can rarely HIT the bomber, and the solaris have too short a range to be effective.
Maybe add a BS turret with a fast projectile speed/decent range??
A less powerful turret but it would be up to the pilot if he's willing to sacrifice a bit of firepower for being better at handling smaller vessels.
