Will it happen?
I was thinking on this today, the poll is on favor of smuggling artifacts.
I'd like to see it happening.

Artifacts need a better use, Corsairs barely see crap compared to what the Outcasts get.

1) Yes.
2) No.
3) No.

1) - I think the Rogues should go back to smuggling Artifacts, because this might go some way as to resolving the somewhat overblown and misrepresented Outcast/Corsair war. Only handling Cardimine shows a level of morals as well (in a strange kind of way - not aiding an allies enemy), which doesn't sit well with my image of the Rogues. I'm sure they'd be spreading out in every direction the underworld offered to try and corner the market.

The main problem with Rogues going back to smuggling Artifacts is the news articles scattered across various unlawful bases: "ANTI-CORSAIR COALITION BROADENS", "ROGUES JOIN ANTI-CORAIR COALITION", "ANTI-CORSAIR COALITION TALKS HELD ON BUFFALO." As well as many other gripping titles. They'd have to be vanished before the Rogues could revert back to their original state.

2) No, the Rogues shouldn't go to neutral with both. I'm sure if the Rogues ever actually met the Corsairs in Vanilla, they'd have been listed as friendly too. The Rogues seem to be friendly with the people they do business with. They wouldn't have ever met the Corsairs, because the leg that moved the Artifacts to them was done by the Hackers (another faction that could get in on this), who also wouldn't have seen the Corsairs, because I think they received them from the Hogsha.

Back when they traded both commodities, they had no trouble maintaining the unknown/friendly stance with the Corsairs and Outcasts. The Outcasts shouldn't be particularly worried because all they used the Rogues for was moving the Cardimine through the last leg across the New York system. And the Rogues only got that bit because the Outcasts didn't want the death toll that came with the run pinned on them.

Of course, none of this actually bares much water any more. Discovery has twisted a perfectly good working system of shades of grey and replaced it with a black-and-white newspaper background.

3) Sure, have fixed diplomacy with major groups such as the Lane Hackers and your other Libertonian friends. That just represents the status-quo, not people ambassadors in tweed jackets going over to other people's base to thresh out details of alliances. As a player faction the Rogue's diplomacy is as fluid as anyone else's - change it as you get offended or befriended though. The faction's diplomacy doesn't need to be dictated to by the hardcoded stuff. If someone shoots a Rogue ship, word is going to spread. "They're Rogue killers". "They killed my best mate". "They killed my best mate's mate". Then there is the hostility that you get as a return from agression.

And having ingame fluid diplomacy is a very bad idea when applied to the NPC faction as a whole. Imagine an indy loldessie deciding that the Hackers were hostile to him because it was down to him as an individual. You get a PvP rampage.

Liberty rogues, why don't you contact junkers more and agree on some hauling from junker bases? don't you guys stay in liberty anyway and accept whatever comes that way?

Only thing i can see happening is whoever smuggling it to LR space and you paying some semidecent price for them to take it off our hands.
Problem is that for a corsair, trip to manhattan simply aint worth it. We haul em off at Trafaglar, Islay or with Hogosha to new tokyo.

The Junkers can trade both sides of the fence because they have bases where almost everyone is welcome. By fence, I mean lawful and unlawful. The Rogues will have some difficulty on that point. Most pilots who start out in New York/Penn took their first mission against...guess who?
The deck is kinda stacked against the Rogues on that score. You start hostile to them don't you?
Rogues are never going to be allowed to dock on Manhatten. Junkers can.

As it stands, Rogues are unlikely to be allowed into Gamma on any level.
As Ivan says, the OTC ship artifacts all over.
If Rogues come across an OTC tagged ship hauling artifacts, what would they do?
Same goes for Rogues in Gamma.
Corsairs can dock in Liberty at Junker bases for example, where can Rogues dock in Gamma?
The Rogues would have to look at a suitable alternative (IFF/ID) for trading unless ID's and RP gets changed.
If they can find another option (and I'm sure they can), I don't see why they shouldn't be allowed to run artifacts. I think it's a good idea.

With regard to the Outcast/Corsair alliance, the stuff with the artifacts is to be honest "Strictly business, capeche"?
The Rogue ship line is theirs (and Molly), not Outcast and they have their own weapons. As long as the Cardi keeps flowing and Rogue bases are available to them, the Outcasts shouldn't worry.

One thing in their favor with Corsairs however is that Corsairs have Sirius wide political and military goals.
The Rogues don't. They are, barring their existing alliances, a good old fashioned money making machine of orgainised crime.
If anything, I think the Rogues and Hackers should ally and leave the Outcast alliance behind but thats for another thread.

I think that Junkers and Rogues have too similar a trade going on.

They both buy and sell from the big boys in the same fashion.

Outcasts and Corsairs do not have dissimilar sized ZoIs.

Outcasts: Non-Nomad Omicrons, Sigmas, Taus, Borderworlds, a small part of Liberty, a small part of Kusari.

Corsairs: Omicrons, Sigmas, Omegas, Borderworlds, a large part of Bretonia, and I've also seen them (roleplayed) in the Taus.

With regard to Hackers withdrawing support from the Outcasts and attaining a sort of neutrality, they do appear to be the Outcasts' best friends in Vanilla. Hopelessly addicted to Cardamine to the point where it has become a way of life, like alcohol to the Molly, if a Bretonian stereotype is to be believed.

I'm sure the Hackers ingame have branched out from this in one form or another, but one group of hackers at present is very focused in helping Outcast shipments. (and a big thankyou to them!)
