Allright, as the title says, I haven't given away the idea yet, and if you are offended easily by a simple suggestion, get out. Please don't flame me no more. This is a VERY CONTRAVERSAL idea so if you can't keep it constructive, don't post.




















































Now the idea of course: Make capital ships more powerful, but something of value drops each time they are killed. Maybe an unequipable system like for example 'insurance' that you can't undock without, and the BS drops it upon death. So yes, give them more pwnage power but do you seriously want to risk losing 20-50mil (depending on cruiser, assault cruiser or BS)? Doesn't even need code changes, just a droppable item that if undock without is a sanctionable offence.

I know many people have been calling for more powerful capital ships. They should also be able to have nicer weapons and serve as an anti fighter platform. In other words, make them IMBA. So this delivers imba unmatched firepower
Also solves the problem of 90% of all LN ships being cruisers, which I admit I contribute to that problem.
So, you arn't really going to undock with 50million cargo in your battleship are you?
Will definately deter me. Well maybe not 50mil, perhaps 10 for cruiser, 15 for BC and 25 for bs is more fair.

A good idea, but.....

It would make a BS an *INSTANT* target for anybody who wants the credits and has a ship or a group of friends who are willing to team up in order to share the cash.

True, people would think twice about undocking a BS, but BS already cost +250 mill credits (even tho they come with a license) on top of their 'base' price.

'power' in the capital ships is not nearly the problem. People think that giant ass powerhungry overpriced cannon-shelves should be able to drop fighters and bombers like flies.

WRONG.

Large vessels=Support. Background fire and Equipment. Large guns? Awesome, we can fend off the other battleships and cruisers that come this way, and knock out their support. It's artillery.

Artillery is Ground cover. Land based or slow-moving targets to be brought down with heavy long ranged fire. Doesn't require a lot of precision in Freelancer to make it hit the big stuff, even at a distance. And man does it hurt.

If Battleships could handle small craft? An Artillery gun that serves as AA and ground cover? One size fits all. Then that size goes on to be able to fight off All of the tanks and all of the jets that come by, because you're unstoppable. And for the record: A good gunboat pilot with proper build will eat any fighters or bombers that come its way. There's your goddamned IMBA.

There is no 'one size fits all here' because this is Role-Play. Roleplay by Character, Diplomacy, and Combat. If you want to win, make a group, or always fight with the upperhand, Via Ganking. YOU CANNOT do everything on your own, the game was not built that way, and it will not be built that way. There have been many different threads on the battleship and capital balance, and I am pretty sure anti fighter has been ruled out indefinately, Because the balance wouldn't exist since that class rules over all others. Use it in moderation? My ass. No one is willing to moderate access to the battleships, its waay too much work.

To ammend: Credits will never solve the problem. People surrender their lives for hours on end to get access to what they think is the ultimate ship. Therefore I will continue my bomberwhoring until people figure out balance.

I believe touchy subjects should be discussed, not swept under the carpet. If I get flamed, I get flamed trying to make things better for everyone. I've done my reserch this time, and lots of people want more powerful capships, but most importantly, stop people like me from getting them. So... 20mil for a battleship lets say. When rhineland invades I'll defend, but 20mil to chase pirates? No way. This is sure gona deter me.

Ganking. With 3x armor and 2x damage and turret speed, good luck. Good luck.

Of course the long term goal of this suggestion is to create mobile bases when dockable carriers come into play. A good strong reliable base to launch from.
