Simple question, back in the Vanilla, that siege cruiser, though game engine wise, cannot be a 'stream' weapon, but the effect attempts to make it look like it as one person said.

So in RP wise, is the Siege Cruiser one of the first Ion Cannon ships? These at least in Homeworld, excel at ripping large objects up.

I'd have to agree, however the inner workings of the cannon are not really talked about

Liberty mainly uses laser and plasma weapons, and from what I can see, this thing is neither. It does appear simmilar in looks to the Liberty engines...I think it was said that those were ion engines, and it is not unreasonable to connect the two

what's worth noting though, in singleplayer it did fire in a stream, but a 'pulse' of energy would travel down the glowing guide rings every moment or two...doing the actual damage.... I assume that those rings around the gun and the glowing rings in space funnel the main weapons energy to where it has to go

True, but with the game mechanics, there needs to be a 'ballistic', and we can't have a refire of a million or something to simulate a beam weapon on a server. There are mods out there for that though.

Maybe in RP the rings are a tachyon containment field for the beam's pulses to cause damage. I'm thinking like the alien ships in the movie Independence Day, the beam is a guide then the charged pulse comes into play for the damage.

an idea that has been kicked around for the weapon was to make it fire faster... maybe a 2 or 3.03 refire rate, but lower the damage per hit to keep the weapon dealing the same damage per second

that way the trail of the weapon should be long enough to overlap with the next trail...making it look like a constant beam with a pulse going down it

I would experiment around with this idea, but I lack the programming know-how to do it

I think the big question here is... how easy is it to reproduce the beam effect of that weapon? Because I really want a beam-like cap weapon that isnt a forward gun for the order, just so we can use something different than the mortar =/

I believe in the scene where the liberty cruisers blow up the research station in vanilla SP, you can see how the cannons achieve the "beam" effect.

It's very simple: in Vanilla the Lib Cruiser forward gun has a refire rate of 2.00.

judging from the model - i think its not meant to be a beam - but rather a pulse effect. - the general effect is similar - but different when it comes to the details.

the siege cruisers front section looks like it produces something like a field that would keep the projectile "in shape" - the actual cannon is only the little "dish".

here s what i mean about the difference between pulse and beam. - the cruiser emits pulses - i don t think it is meant to be a real solid beam like the lower example.

I always interpreted it as a stream of energy along which larger bursts would pulse. Something of a hybrid between the two - but overall a pulse weapon, I suppose.

I would, and I think most people would also...

prefer a higher refire rate of the lib cruiser forward gun. Possibly the dragon one too (if it gets a nother projectile replace)
