Recently I've been thinking that is it really in the spirit of smuggling people running 5k transports as smuggling? To me the idea does not fly that well. I've always held the image of smuggling to be rather small time operation. As it is now people will fly around hold full of cardi/slaves/counterfeit sw/organs with those 5k ships.

So I think limiting the smuggling to freighters would be good. And maybe even make some good only to be carried by smuggler ID.

And now the whole what is legal and what is not is far from clear. Sure the different houses have different laws, but to me it's just a mess since I can't intuitively say is the person I have 2 seconds to scan is doing something illegal. To me Sirius should have common contraband items. Maybe even put the word Contraband there in the commodity info card where it says 'perishable' now.

Your thoughts?

Flying under radar.

Freighters have what? normally 650 cargo about? If you did this nobody would smuggle and the police forces would be even more useless then they are now. In the last voting box thing I clicked no because it's rather obvious what's illegal in houses and stuff like that.

Restricting the Smuggler ID to freighters you say? A big NO from me.

Look: smuggler is just the common word for a trader, who trades goods, which are against the house laws or trades things through blockades illegally. Restricting should never be a way to improve things.

From an unlawful point of view a smuggler isn't a smuggler actually, but more a trader who supplies them with essential goods and/or trades the official contraband, which is normal stuff for the unlawfuls.

It all depends on the point of view.

I smuggle in a 5k transport and I would be severely bothered if this facility was taken away from me.

Ben, what you do is more moving sensitive cargo for research.

To best cap off the transport powersmuggling, I would suggest removing moor points from planets. Small ships only. bigger ships can use the nearby space stations. Trade runs can be adjusted with ease.

It's a complex machinery to actually do all this. Maybe as a long term goal. But people are right when they say smuggling is just LAW thing.

You're really not smuggling artifacts trough Corsair space, you're trading artifacts.
You're smuggling blood diamonds trough Corsair space.
It all depends on what laws does a system have.
I have no problem with huge trains smuggling. They're fragile and tend to blow up fast.
If you ask me, it would be a better thing to develop some guidelines for the police and lawfuls that enforce the law.
Since blowing up a 5k transport drops 3k cardamine that you blow up, you have no income from it...
If you for example, earned the worth or half the worth of the 3k cargo.. You'ld be motivated better.

Ah,

now reading it I seem to have omitted that profits should be fitted to make it reasonable to fly in Freighters.

But there are problems like Ivan pointed out. But smuggling in pirate space just does not really make sense to me.

Flying under radar.

Voted 'no' to all.
Freighters would stop Pirate Transports being used.
Limiting to Smuggler ID would mess up the RP of the IND, Zoners, etc.
And the laws thing varies between GC, UK and USA, so I voted no there aswell.
Topic deserves Flood...

Last version i was pretty happy with my Pirate Train and its smuggler ID, but with the update, oh no more docking at lawlful bases, buhu, i sold it for scraps.

The smuggler ID is bad enough, and certanly needs no additional berfing. Slaves are cardi are better done in an Liberty Rogue ATrain, that with a smuggler ID.

If i cant drop 4500+ of Cardemine or Artfacts onto Manhatten, were is the point of smuggeling.

You do know that you can dock at lawful bases, don't you? The infocard just says, that the lawful forces can prevent you from docking, regardless what you are carrying. I did it a couple of times and asked some admins... it's totally okay to dock.
