I read the whole thread. You wanted opinions?

Don't ride your high horse so hard. It gets tired.

I'm against your proposal, if that needed clarification.

i dont think thats the solution, but abusive use of an id should be restrained in some form. But well, there are pirates to get them, mercs, freelancers, bounty hunters. I`m not seeing an OC letting a freelancer or merc or BH docking on Malta, place that has one of the most profit in Sirius.

You don't have to join a player faction to be part of an npc faction.

RepEx were about before I joined the server, but I played an independent Republican behemoth called Phaethon and didn't have to deal with any kind of active politics.

I think encouraging players away from the faceless "independent trader" ID and into something with more history (I'd like to see some Gateway again, I miss those guys) is a good thing.

However, I think this encouragement should take the form of RP encounters. Stop people for a chat, follow them around in "convoy", halt them etc. dependant on the character you're on and suggest alternatives to the Independant Trader. Rescue a few independants with the Kishiro "Special Response Security Team" and offer the company spiel (and with your experience in piracy, you'd be among the best qualified to work in that field). SECOM and ALSOK are Japanese security companies that work for and inside other companies to protect areas, personnel, objects etc. as well as perform surveillance, installation of security, preventative and intimidation devices.

Rather than fiddling with prices, which are odd enough at the moment, offer a concrete answer to the local pirates. Kusari gunboats with missile launchers are probably enough to clean those bombers out of space before they manage to kill a large/dodging transport.

Even if they die, taking revenge and letting the victim know will make them feel all warm and gooey inside, and endear you to them forever after.

Yes, I support this proposal. House law enforcement need to stop being lazy and start patrolling space more. Even if they don't stop the pirates it makes the traders feel better and therefore promotes more RP.

I don't think it should just be the House law enforcement, but also corporation enforcement through security divisions (on issues that directly relate to trading; piracy, corporation specific cargo etc.).

The entire reason I made my junker nearly 2 years ago was for freedom - the ability to go anywhere, haul almost anything, make allegiances and enemies where I saw fit, be my own boss, etc. etc. I still maintain that on the same character, if I joined a faction such as the congress there would be rules, restrictions, limitations. I can do more on my own than I ever could in a faction.

Plus, a faction tag lets people know who you are from systems away, easier to sneak around when you're untagged.

Quote:Corporations depend on Indi ID traders to get things to other customers which may not want to be associated to, lets say a food manufacturer whos primary customer is say..... CRETE

1) I am pretty much the only food corperation in liberty, and Rhienland. More so for liberty.
2) I would not need someone shipping synth paste to the guys who assosiate with the FA
3) Hogosha do that for Samura
4) Corsars get most of their food from raids ( by bar rumor)

Yet, I wouldnt nerf the Indie traders anymore than they are. Rather, buff corperate ID's, Let em use GB's Or Stop making it that they have to spam Merc ID's to defend themselves.

No longer a slave to the man!

ill be honest only reason i have a tradeship is because i have freedom and fund my charcters(primarly the latter)(im hardly on it and at most its a 5-7 mill loopgimme a reason to join a faction (and if you need to have an escourt fighter im doomed as i cant fly fighters/bombers) then il lconsider it right now all i see is drama rather then perks im indie/unofficial so i avoid said drama yet can still make a impact on the area i play as(like my BC)

' Wrote:That's exactly my point. Nerfing IDs won't fix the problem, they'll always find another one and they'll never actually try to RP. You have to deal with that problem at its source, it's not like a tree you can just clip the dead branches off of.

And you're too obsessed with the chickens to notice that your vegetable garden is getting destroyed.:P

Furthermore, what's with all the metaphor today?

Metaphor: for when you actually have no clue what you are arguing about or why. Tis just fun to debate sometimes methinks.

' Wrote:This is true. However the answer is not in making things more difficult for "Indiy" traders. The answer ... as I've always preached, is player education. Not sanctions, not nerfing, not penalising, but coaching, mentoring, US coming alongside these newbies and trying to attract them, woo them into the faction.

A bossy person/faction/rule lawyer is not attractive to new people (or veteran members even). The question is, How can I make this faction attractive to new players? The answer is not in nerfing things.

Meh.
The problem with debating a subject like this on these forums (and there are some masterdebators here), is that none of the people the ideas are aimed to effect are not present. This is not about nerfing Indies, it is about fixing some problems at the source. IMO, the source is ignorance. Ignornace is not stupidity, it is merely lack of information.
Every day we see another rant about pvp abuse, ooc behaviour, etc. I just think it might be a wise route to create initial rails for new players regarding the server rules and how to have RP fun.

Anyhoo.... I enjoy the server with or without my suggestions. Before Disco, I had to RP in PvP environments so either way it's fun for me.

Question:

Are Indie Traders limited to smaller transports completely or can they trade in larger vessels under the right iff/tag?
