Monday, Monday. So good to me. Wrote:Chlorine one can get in ample quantity from common table salt...

Xenon, a little more exotic (and can be radioactive as well).

Is it possoble to get a mod to split off the posts about anti-hydrogen?

They arent really relevant to this topic - but would make an excellent topic of themselves.
That depends entirely on how much salt Sirius produces. You wouldn't think Helium, for instance, as a rare and incredible gas, but Pennsylvania has the only source in Sirius. It would be ridiculous to assume that each House landed on Edens with every resource needed on or in the convenient vicinity of their new homes.

-Edit- New page #4. I'm on a roll... -.-'

Obvious answer would be Nitrogen.
It makes up 78% of the air all of us breathe, could be transported to any and all bases for a commodity as the bases need it to maintain a atmosphere. Can be used as an additive for fuels.
or in worse case scenario, some one can start a dentist faction & use it for pulling teeth...

Helium is the second most common element in the universe - right after Hydrogen.

That being said - most of it is locked up in stars. You may be confusing absolute abundance with relative abundance.

In terms of a commodity such as Chlorine, I am not against such a commodity being produced.

However, instead of a nebula, can you think of a really, really salty planet in the Sigmas that could produce this product?

I can.

Nitrogen is not consumed in breathing and you can use any other inert gas to dissolve oxygen.

Yellow-green, actually.

Nitrogen, being relatively inert and easy to liquify, would also be an important terraforming gas for major applications (where you have to import an atmosphere). This would be good for Planetform.

But as an additive for fuels?

SHIPS DONT FLY ON PETROL COMBUSTION ENGINES, THEY USE NUCLEAR FUSION!
Seriously, nitrogen fuel additive wont do jack.

But in terms of an ore - there is a product even better then Nitrogen.

AMMONIA NH3

It is very common in Gas Giants. It is a precursor (read 'ore' ) to fertilisers, and mixed with hydrocarbons and oxygen can produce the full range of amino acids, polymers, and other organic compounds.

So good for a gas giant, not so good for the remains of a star (or a nearby radioactive cloud).

hmmm, pretty cool gas to add...... hard to pick

Chlorine, Sulphlur, Freon

those are the ones i can think of

That is a good point. Even now on Earth divers use Helium to support their lungs at the higher pressures.

There are a lot of suggestions here for new commodities. Some, like Elemental Hydrogen, are simply too common.

I mean why do you have infocards of planets or clouds stating 'no useful resources to extract'?
They are clearly made of SOMETHING.

For nebula and clouds - this is generally hydrogen.
For planets its iron, silicon, oxygen (tied up as minerals) and aluminium.

Guys - if you are proposing new commodities. Do yourselves a favour and do a little research.

Dont just pull something out of the air - because those of us who DO research are going to rip it to shreds...

Chlorine - answered before - doesnt occur as a free gas. Generally bound up in salts.

Sulphur - NOT A GAS! But it is very common in space rocks. Could be classed as too common.

Freon - This is a simple Chloroflourocarbon, or CFC.
It is not naturally occurring - but could be manufactured by Planetform using different salts and minerals.

To revise - here is my suggestion:

Xenon - for the Doryu Cloud in Sigma-19.

Other good suggestions for non-Sigma areas were:
Flourite ore for Planetform.
Anti-hydrogen for more exotic locations.

Yeah, I have been to Gallia.

Regardless of what I think of *cough* Gallic 'oil' - it is plausible they use hydrocarbons rich in deuterium.

They STILL dont use combustion engines!

Anyone who says they do should be laughed out the door...
