Admin Notice: Ship purchase restrictions

Ugh. Yay... More to do to get a ship I have permission to use on my pirate ID. -.-

I can't say I really approve of this if it does, in fact, stop people from purchasing white tech. I do, of course, have no problem with the red blocks being stopped, but eh.... This is meh.

A better idea might be to remove the regulation of ship/weapon usage for white cells from being an admin issue, and let factions kill/bounty those people that fly their technology without permission. And then diplomacy rules between players and admins don't have to get involved.

Oh man, if I could fly a Werewolf and pirate Rogue Transports without losing permission to fly the Werewolf.... And therefore having to sell it.... ooooooooh.
(Rogues are just an example)


This is reducing the rights of the many to restrict the few who abuse it.

To clarify this is not about decreasing admin work load although it might have that effect.

The main reason is:
To reduce the number of sanctions because players hate, really really hate, being sanctioned. That's it.

The second reason is:
To remove admins from the decision loop and thus remove any possible admin bias.

A couple of people have pointed out some of the problems related to this and made suggestions about how to improve it. I will be reviewing these and making what ever changes seem appropriate.

Red cells? Don't see any reason why not to. Not that I like more restrictions, but this is just enforcement of existing once.

White cells?

You've got to be joking.

Telling me, in such a matter-of-fact way, that you want me to do even more useless work, work that is not roleplay and is detrimental to such (seriously why would my X character be in Y totally unrelated space just because he happens to have stolen/reconstructed/been given as a gift from a dead father/found laying around empty/etc. ship Z, when he really hates faction N who own ship Z?), just so I can support my roleplay? SRPs are bad enough. They work, but they make life hard for people who actually just want to RP. But now this?

With all due respect to the admins, and especially to Cannon, for all their hard work making the server better, this idea stinks worse than a dead skunk baked in the sun for a week. I exercise my non-rights as a semi-active player to protest this move. It totally ruins the idea of the white cells, because if I'm going to work that hard ooRP for a ship that makes sense IRP, why don't I just work hard writing stories and SRP it? But if it was a white cell, I couldn't even do that.

Red cells? Go for it. White? Not so much. Repping's about as fun as pulling teeth even as it is. This makes it ten times worse.

I get so sick of that question. This way ... if they are flying it ... they've gotten permission to have it.

Or it was purchased illegally before the switch. Or the ID was switched out after. Or...

Yet another restriction that punishes everybody universally, if not more so for the people who are responsible and come to the forums and ask factions if they can fly x ship. I know the GMG allows people to 'steal' their technology, if people have a valid reason and ask nicely. This shoots that in the face.

I have to agree with him. I can't say its a very good idea to be honest. Yes for blocking Reds no for blocking Whites. I also agree with the person that said we should handle the stealing of White cells In-Rp through Bounty Hunting and what not. Cannon you've always been good but this isn't one of your better ideas.

Let me try to explain why this is being put in place also for white cells. Players, out of error, unawareness and similar reasons are buying ships, their ID's doesn't allow them to fly. These players, when seen, get sanctioned, and most often loose a lot of cash, since they are forced to change the ship, if they don't have the required rep status to get an appropriate ID for that ship.

Example :
Player finally got money enough for a GB. He goes to Rostock, buys the Recruit ID, reps enough to get into O56, without being killed by the NPC/Weaponsplatforms/stations, and purchase his Bottlenose or his Orca.

He is happy, untill he finds out he cant put the BH weapons on it. He flies back to Rostock to rep while using basic weapons. He gets seen by another player that actually read the Recruit ID, and therefore knows it does not allow that class of ship. He gets told to change back to a fighter and doesn't like it, because that will cost him a loss. He gets reported. Violation report gets processed, and he loses far more. He is a sad camper now.

With this system in place, the recruit ID can be restricted so he can only buy the fighter class and the Freighter class ships, which the recruit ID allows, untill such time he has the rep needed for the BH ID. He won't get reported, he won't get sanctioned. He is a happy camper.


Next scenario : Freelancer sees a group of people flying the Tridente. He thinks the ship is sexy. He flies to an OC station that sells the tridente, and finds out he is fairly friendly with the Outcasts, because he actually shot a lot of Corsairs. He buys the Tridente. The Tridente is white on the techchart, but he isn't aware of that, since he saw other freelancers fly it in Dublin. He just didnt see they were carrying Pirate IDs, but had Freelancer IFF's, and didn't know there was such a thing as the Forums where these pilots had requested and gotten permission to fly the Tridente.

So he gets his dreamship, brings it back towards Liberty/Bretonia/Rheinland.. And gets reported. And sanctioned. Another sad camper, although his Freelancer ID said he could fly GB's...

With the system in place, he can't get the Tridente, untill he has asked the faction in control of that vessel. That faction can then either rep-up, sell and transfer a Tridente, as part of their incomesource, while promoting and encouraging the RP for their faction, aswell as having a better check over who flies their tech, OR he can rep it up himself as an outcast, buy the ship at the face value from the station, request permission, and when received, change back to his Freelancer ID.

For fighters and Freighters, the rep up process won't be necessary, since the Recruit ID allows you to purchase them - So if he wanted forinstance a Titan, all he needed was to ask permission from an official Server faction leader of the Corsairs, then head to Gamma, get a Recruit ID, buy the ship, and put back the Freelancer ID.

It promotes interaction with the factions, it gives the factions a chance to see who is using their ship technology, it protects the player from risking a sanction, and as an added bonus from that, lessens the workload of the Admins.

The above scenarios are easily transferred to alll the other IDs and shiptypes. So before you all complain about it, think it through, and let the Admin team get a chance to finetune it.
