We'll also be installing a new dynamo crank so the admin on duty wont have to work so hard to keep the server running.

We had to let the hamsters go.

You know, the economy,

' Wrote:We will try running the player database from a RAMDisk. This should reduce HDD related lags, and it also will reduce the flserver startup time from 15minutes down to around 60 seconds if I remember the tests correctly. I'll also install a UPS so the server can handle power blackouts and secure that RAMDisk is saved to a HDD during a regular shutdown.

Which RamDrive s/w are you using ?
They are a bit twitchy these things as they continuously use RAM and since non-ecc models don't have self correcting mechanisms, they may corrupt. RAM manufacturer, current speed, voltage also have plenty to do with ramdrive stability.

Is it possible to perform a hot backup of the player db ? If it's possible I would suggest running this every 15-30 mins.

Having built computers and servers from start to finish myself, I have full confidence in Majkp, otherwise he wouldn't be doing it.

There's about four database backups in various parts of the world. Do not worry.
