Well there is potential there - just need more work.

The idea of different bomber weapons is a good one (and in the general bomber thread most people voted yes to different types of bomber weapon).

Trouble is its such a new concept there is a lot to consider - in terms of implementation and balance.

1) IMPLEMENTATION:

- Slow
- Used at close range
- Heavy Damage
- Large Blast Radius


2) BALANCE:

- Ensure only the ships we want using it...use it!

This is actually a perfect example to use with CARGO BALANCE. Giving this ordnance a cargo value will restrict how much all ships with a mine launcher can carry. It automatically limits lighter craft to only a couple of them (or even none at all depending on how much cargo they take up).

If it is intended that bombers only carry a few of these - then give them a cargo value of say, 30-50.

Note that this potentially makes Freighters into 'bombers' - if they can get close enough to a cap to drop them!


- Ensure it is only used against the ships it is intended to be used for.

Use this against fighters? If it is very slow then a fighter should be able to evade it.
A ship thrusting at 200 will take 1.5 seconds to travel 300. A detonation delay of two seconds should be enough to reach minimum safe distance.
The device should be unstable - if a CD can detonate it, it makes it suicide to use it against a CD carrying ship head on.

You realize that in a fight with even remotely competent people, even a battleship is usually one or so k away from where it was 20 seconds before. So would you hook up to the ship or something? If so, flak/mortar/anything really and you go splode. You die in exchange for distracting a cap for maybe ten seconds. Granted, that's actually a lot more damage than a single supernova will ever do to a battleship. But still. Not fun for the bomber.

Ah, No for the light fighter thing. I liked the original idea. Light fighters are meant to harass enemy bomber positions. Not to kill captail ships.

Bombers are for that, besides.

I've think about this...Cap ships already are useless against few bombers.It's not fair to pay thousands of million for a ship and armor and then to get pwned by 2 bombers with SNAC that fly around ya and then BOOm you.So I would suggest to make improvements to other ships,not to the bombers.:nono:

It's not fair that avarage joe can buy a bs.

Untill it can, I think 1 bomber should be able to kill entire bs.


Bah, those mines won't be used properly. Snac is enought. I still would like to see only shield busting snac alternative.
