The thought behind this poll was:

In RL, the human community, our culture becomes digitalized. Technical knowledge is growing year to year. When the sleeper ships started, it should not be a technical problem, to have some backups on every sleeper ship with them.

Reason: They have to leave Earth, with no hope to come back. They obviously would have the backups.

Point is, of course, 200 years in furure it is not a problem, to take the whole human history and knowledge with you, in a small thing, similar to the iPhone today.

Not everybody may be interested in that "ancient history" inRP, but generally the ancient earth history should be known, maybe only for some freaked up scientists..

What do you think?

It should be known, but the RL modern day would be as quaint and ancient as the Dark Ages, or possibly ancient Rome. I'm not entirely certain how far in the future FL is set, but it's at least 1000 years into the future, if not twice that.

Yes, I imagine that there is a quite considerable wealth of knowledge in Sirius databases about old Earth history, I see no reason why there wouldn't be. Especially given that quite a lot of things are digitized.

If we, here and now can find paper/papyrus from thousands of years ago, the people in Sirius should certainly have digital data pertaining to old earth politics, history, culture, religion, music and other things like that.

And come on, when they built these Sleeper ships?

The individual nations that built each sleeper ship -must- have loaded them up with all sorts of historical and cultural items from their nations so as to preserve their history.

To create something like a Sleeper ship, to start anew in a new location, and -not- gather up such items and information in the process would be...well, silly.

So yes, I think that there should be plenty of information about Sol and old Earth cultures, traditions, religions, nations, music and all of that sort of stuff within reach of citizens of Sirius.

We're a lot better at record-keeping now then we were back in Ancient rome/Egypt/etc. So odds are, yeah, we'd have full knowledge about hold earth history and anything that happened in the intervening years between 'now' and 818 A.S.

Between the 6 sleeper ships, Coalition Survivors, and the =CR= and \CS\ sleepers that left before the war, yeah, we'd have taken all the records with us.

---

Does that mean the average citizen in Sirius would know or care about events ~1000 or so years ago. Probably not. Historians would, sure. Well educated individuals would. Others would not.

So, depends on the individual character.

All that begins must end.

I think it's something that children should learn at the history lesson in school.

I believe it is the sole duty of every Sirian to know the history behind what brought us so far away from home, if not much in detail, at elast the main bullet points.

My NLH char is an old Sol mythology freak:P

More than that, took the sleeper ships several hundred years to get to Sirius.

This means 818A.S, is about 1500 years from now.

2000 + 200 (2200 being the end of Sol wars) + 300 (Sleeper ships in motion? No idea, total guess) + 800 now.

Add it up.

Well, Freelancer Discovery is set in 817 A.S.

They left earth in 2200 A.D.

They said "That was 800 years ago" So, my if my failure math is correct it is approximately the year 3017 A.D.

Which is quite scary. They'd definately know the history. Not everyone, but probably people more interested in that. I bet they still teach it in schools

What i've wanted to know is that if there are hovercars yet?
