I'd like to preface this by saying that I do not trade. Nor do I mine. However, I see the effects of something that I've noticed.

It started with the Sigma 13 Diamond/Niobium run. Right to take it away? Yeah, probably.

Copperton field in Colorado was the first big mining field as far as I'm aware. Mine there, fly it over to Denver. There was, in no specific order, the Deuterium field of Omega 49, Gold of Dublin, Platinum in Pennsylvania. etc. etc.

All nerfed (or in the case of Dublin, on the way to a nerf). Why? God's sake why? Cuz it attracted more people? It makes no sense. People will always find that one place they all like to bunch around. It may not be any more profitable than someplace else, but there are people there. People like to gather around with others. You can nerf everything to hell and beck trying to spread them around Sirius, but it just won't work.

So, this is me. I don't trade. I don't mine. I'm just throwing this out there, but can we please stop nerfing stuff and instead start focusing on improving the quality of RP in a given area? Is people coming together in one place really all that bad?

Seconded.

Whats needed is mining AND trade to make sense, casue neither really make sense now.

How to fix it ?

Well to start, basic commodities....... I'll use food as an example.

Within EACH HOUSE it should have a base price. From there, designate production centers. Those have lower prices. From there within the house setup single house hops for that food. A house has to feed itself afterall.

Do the same with all basic commodities that each house produces.

Do the same with ore from mining, each house can process it (cause the idea that ONLY Narita processes silver ore is REATARDED, ditto ANY place being the only processing center for an ore)

You do that and ALL prices drop to more realistic values. The number of big bucks runs becomes very few. Folks start running goods everywere and no more clustering.

Mining is still in its 'beta' so-to-speak. Until everything is figured out there are bound to be changes made, rather often. Furthermore, while we want mining to happen.. We don't want all the miners all mining in the same place. 90% of Discovery's miners mining Gold in Dublin is not what was hoped to accomplish.

[shameless plug]
Why not make the Miner ID stop rep-hacking?
Sort of restricts it's use O_o
[/shameless plug]

Seriously tho...
1.) Balancing stuff™ will always be a work in progress.
2.) It's human nature/laziness to go where it is most profitable

To quote myself from another thread regarding the halfarsed way they did mining (and trading too)

' Wrote:Actualy Ive suggested a fix on occasion.
its simple too.
You go house by house, and decie were each commodity is produced.

Food, wheres it grown, hull pannels, were are they produced, etc etc.

From there you assign each system in the house a 'base' value for all goods. The base value is a lower 'buy here' price in the system its produced at. Lowest at the base its produced at, with the price getting a tad higher (but not SOLD at) other bases in the system the farther away they are (IE: this way, noobs can trade almost ANYWERE, but not for much profit).

From there, have a few house to house trade runs for goods that are much cheaper in one house than in another.

As for mining, add fields for most commodities into most houses or their border worlds. Add refineries for said ore/gas into each house as well (IE: sell points). Suddenly you'll have people all over the place, in each house.

Everyone clusters to mine gold in dublin ? People start going to a gold field elsewere, say in kusari, until folks notice that and some go there. Or one in Rhinland even.

I would think we could perhaps not arbitrarily start nerfing fields just because one is more popular than the other. The actual numbers should speak instead of simple popularity. Dublin is in a unique position, rather than say Pennsylvania.

"The thirteen saloons that had lined the one street of Seney had not left a trace. The foundations of the Mansion House hotel stuck up above the ground. The stone was chipped and split by the fire. It was all that was left of the town of Seney. Even the surface had been burned off the ground.
Nick looked at the burned-over stretch of hillside, where he had expected to find the scattered houses of the town and then walked down the railroad track to the bridge over the river. The river was there."

Or nerf it if it gets spammed, say it dried up.

Then after attention is gone, un-nerf it.

So people either move around, give up, or play normally.

Mining got screwed up by some bug, and lots of fields just sort of became unbalanced... so what you see right now is not going to last long. I wouldn't even say it was a beta, it was more like a very early alpha version of the mining mod. Bugs galore.

Hell, it was even said that it was a complete test. Multiple times in fact... So what you should expect is a complete overhaul in due time. Instead of whining about profits being moved about however, what I would suggest is that you are glad that you have an option now not to mindlessly tradegrind like before, but now have the option to mine as well.

Or just have more than one field/sellpoint for every mining ID bonus.

that way, if everyone clusters in one place... well ......... they can enjoy the pirates while other folks go somewere else.
