when trying to set controls to my mousewheel, it's as if i haven't done anything it basically cant detect that im scolling up and down, i want to set scroll up to increase my speed and scroll down to decrease. when i push in my mousewheel it recognises it as mousebutton 3. my mousewheel works outside the game as well as in other games. Does anyone know why it doesn't work? i know at least on other person has this prooblem and at least one other person can use the mousewheel. Any advice or input of any kind would be appreciated.

I would guess it's probably the brand of mouse you are using and/or the driver it is using. The game just doesnt recognize what it is outputting.

EDIT: I just read your other thread and noticed that someone had a new mouse that FL wasn't recognizing, this supports my point because FL is a kinda old game and may not recognize the output of some of the newer drivers. Is your mouse newer and/or did it come with it's own set of drivers?

My mousewheel is not recognised by the FL controls setup, but it controls speed by default.

it's not a very new mouse (it has a ball) it came with the pc which i bought in 2004, i didn't have to manually install any drivers or software for it, i just plugged in my computer as far as i can remember. i'm wondering whether i should get a new mouse, but if someone else with a new mouse is having the same problem...

Freelancer should recognize your mouse movements automatically. What you describe for motion is my only way of accelerating/decelerating in the game, so I can see where you can have trouble.

Try UPDATING your mouse drivers. If that doesn't work, eh... Get a new mouse. Generally any mouse will work.

Look at the end of the cord that plugs into you computer. If it is round with six metal pins and a rectangular piece of plastic in a circle on the end of the connector (unplug to look) then it doesn't require any drivers at all, and you wouldn't find any if you looked. (This is called a PS/2 mouse, and is a very old, very standardized type.) If it is a flat connector with four metal leads on the inside, it is a USB mouse and you would do well to check the manufacturer's website for new drivers. This is usually done by searching their site for the model number or serial number printed on the bottom of the mouse. If nothing comes up (assuming that it's a USB mouse) post any identifying numbers that you can back here and I will try to find them for you. The brand and model of your computer would also help if you can't find anything.

thanks for your help, it is a usb mouse, i looked on the bottom and found out it's a logitech make, i went on their website and downloaded a program called mousware which i believe automatically updated my device driver to the latest version (9.79) but it stil doesn't work in the game, i'm wondering if the other guy's mouse (the new one) was also a logitech make.

You might want to see if there are any alternative drivers.
