In-RP lies and bluffs

It's simple enough. Say something believable that no one else saw.

For example:

I am a Freelancer. I want to claim the BD bounty on Hogosha. The Hogosha are alone, and I engage them. KNF appears. Hogosha ask for help. I respond with:

"I'm going to the Embassy! Those Hogosha fired on me. Honestly! They're power mongering ruffians, they are. You saw how they talked, officer!"

How does he know? He wasn't there. He now has to make an RP decision.

Of course, whether or not someone takes it in an OoRP manner is whether or not you'll be flamed. What matters is that people take a step back form the computer and just realizes it's all RP. Nothing you can do to stop yourself from being flamed, what matters is that you realize it's all just RP is laugh at the OoRP bullies.

Does it really matter? You're lying and bluffing to suit your own agenda. If the person getting angry at you can't differentiate between Roleplay and Real-Life it's not your problem.

Me and Sindy used to tell Zoners we don't pirate their faction when they cut the lane early. Or when me and Zig were collecting bounties on the BHG, and Zig killed the hunter right as the LN showed up. We claimed it was a pirate attacking us and got away with it.

I laughed my arse off.

Good example of acceptable lying. >.>

It is all in the wording. Here's an example:
ex: "We engaged the Outcast party 4 hours ago. Their Titans didn't stand a chance."

But what if someone thought titan was an outcast ship.....then you still get flamed.

Exactly, I really think it's quite silly for a person to flame because you lied Icly... If you lie Icly than it's IC deal with it if your going to go cry about how someone lied to you IN CHARACTER than really... Look at yourself in the mirror. I really don't know why you have to word something a special way if my character is going to lie he's going to lie it's the way my character works. If someone lies to me and I fell for it than ****... My character.. YES CHARACTER is going to be angry not me.

People get upset because when someone else lies in character, they are being made to think and challenge their environment through their character. Not everyone is very good at that.

Lie and cheat and bluff as much as you like. You can't please everyone.



A little secret about my character Hannibal Bishop is that he likes to give short answers when telling the truth, and much longer answers when he's telling you what you want to hear.

It's not *that* difficult: examples:

I'm leaving Crete in my Trader and get stopped by a Titan who's keeping an eye out for easy targets

Me: Yeah I'm taking the AO to Leon
Titan: I haven't seen you here before
Me: I drop in about once/twice a week with Food, you can check with Orbital Control
Titan: I just did, they never heard of you
Me: must be a new guy, ask for the Supervisor, they all know me
Titan: OK, confirmed, have a safe trip

(now if he had said a second time "They never heard of you", then I'm a bit screwed and have to come on the Forums and bitch to the Corsairs to find out if I'm in **** with them for some reason, or get their guy in trouble for hassling a friendly Trader (I'm green/white with Corsairs/Guard)

Example 2:

Carrying Pharmaceuticals from Cambridge to Harris, stopped by a Navy Gunboat at Leeds (White/Red to Navy/Guard)

BAF: Sorry sir, I can't let you past this point, turn around
Me: I have these drugs to deliver to Harris
BAF: Sorry sir, I have my orders
Me: Look, check with Don Garfield with Planetform on Harris, they're expecting me
Me: // it's legit, they are expecting a shipment of Pharm from me
BAF: right sir, that's confirmed, when will you be returning ?
Me: I'm taking a few days at Harris, visiting with friends, probably Wednesday
BAF: okay sir, carry on, we will be expecting you.

(now that's an RP lie, I'm going to tour Gallia a bit afterwards, but RP he doesn't need to know that... of course if later he "communicated with Harris" and "finds out you just dropped your cargo and left" (ie: checked his universe-scanner and saw me immediately bugger off from Tau31 a few minutes later) then I could be up for a fine next time I drop into Bretonia)


*Both* parties have to RP it out which takes practice.

Whenever I get caught smuggling (which is very rare) I lie.

"These are not slaves, officer! These are poor men, women and children that feel betrayed by their government, defecting X to join your grand house!"

That worked... once. All other times I got a "Drop slaves rdai."...

Well, in cases like that its their problem.

If it happened to me that I got myself in a situation where I said that, and some guys flame me saying I never shoot the OC Titans their friends where in not long ago, I would just ignore them.
